Amazing pastrami sandwich!!! Gotta have that again!

  • Saturday night a to Z.

Never again!!! It took me 15 minutes and 12 dollars to get a turkey sandwich. How is that even possible? I was the only customer and there were five people in the kitchen. The sandwich was good, but so greasy (again, it was a turkey sandwich) that I could only eat part of it. Definitely not worth the wait or the money.

Born and raised in SLO and had never tried this place out. Heard good things but just never got around to it. Finally had lunch at Seaside today. This was about 5 hours ago, and I'm still stuffed! We had burgers and they were amazing! Messy, but amazing! We will definitely be back to try breakfast because the menu looked great. A side note: not only do I recommend Seaside, but I highly recommend giving your business to local Mom & Pops instead of lazily just settling for mediocre chains that do nothing for the community.

Did this place change owners in the last month? Don't know what happened between my first visit and this one. All I can say is that we ate simply because we were hungry, not because it was good. My egg was so overly fried, I could have used it as a weapon (ordered it over easy). The once loved corn beef was more like beef jerky. Still tasty but tough as nails. The hollandaise lacked flavor and they changed the potatoes, which now taste like they were cooked in maple syrup. All we got from this experience was a stomach ache. Maybe the regular chef was sick, I don't know, just so let down compared to last time.

Best breakfast. Good prices. Owner is super nice and friendly! Hoping to see them expand soon!!! Definitely one of the BEST breakfast/weekend joints in shell beach!

Best Corned beef hash I've had in a very long time. However, word of caution, the portions are huge, so you may want to split or get a to-go box. Prices are a little high, but the quality and atmosphere are worth it.

I am a fan of the Seaside Cafe & Bakery. I'll give you a rundown of our recent visit. 1. The place is tiny inside. Only two tables indoors: really no indoor seating at all. If the weather is nice, you'll sit outside. The morning we went was chilly, so we turned on the outdoor space heaters. 2. The coffee was alright as were the tea and cocoa drinks. There are better places to get coffee, but again it was "alright". 3. The food took a little while to arrive. We were a party of 3, and the place only had a few other customers. It seemed like we had to wait maybe 15-20minutes for our breakfast order. Not terrible, but long enough to drink your coffee or hot chocolate before the meal arrives. 4. The food was EXCELLENT! I had the "maple bacon waffle": decadent! my son had the red velvet pancakes an said they were GREAT! My wife had rosemary potatoes and the french toast and was VERY HAPPY! The food was very good: worthy of exclamation marks! If you're not in a hurry, give Seaside Cafe & Bakery a try.

2 stars because of lack of communication and ingredients Ordered the Scrambled Egg Sandwich $9.95 (see menu and item pic). When ordered, was asked what kind on bread that I wanted it on....English Muffin, Croissant, or Bagel....and I chose English Muffin. When it arrived...a bit of a delay...it was presented by a different person and commented that it was order with the English Muffins. Response was "we're out the Croissant, are fresh". Shouldn't the person that knows something is out of stock relay that information to the person taking the orders? The onions were raw, would have been better in that dish if sauteed. Spouse order the Lemon Blueberry Pancakes $10.95 (see menu and item pic). No lemon flavor in the pancakes themselves, the lemon was only in the creamy topping. Nice Classic Rock music playing in background through speakers to the patio seating. Coffee refills are advertised as $0.75 (self service)

The blueberry Pom mimosa was so delicious! I'm an ice girl, so could have used some ice in it. I ordered a fabulous maple bacon waffle with a sweet glaze. Thought I needed actual syrup but it was not needed as the glaze was perfect. My husband got the berry French toast with blueberries and boysenberries . Also had a sweet glaze on it. It was super yummy. We will definitely be back. I would consider sharing as the portions are huge and a little on the expensive side. 40 bucks for waffle, French toast , a orange fanta and a mimosa.

We really enjoy this cafe. Everything that we have ordered has been delicious, the French toast is amazing. We have only had breakfast so far, but will be back for lunch. It does get very busy and there is limited seating.

Such a unique little cafe and perfect for Shell beach! I have been going at least once a week for the past 4months. They have the best chicken and waffles I have ever had! Their French toast is DIVINE. Not to mention the huge growlers of mimosas! Yes please!

Consistently one of the best latte's I can find in SLO. Not to mention their food is always delicious!!

We ordered our take-out burritos with the salsa verde on the inside so we could take them to the beach. After waiting for 20 minutes our burritos arrived on plates swimming in salsa verde. Our forks and knives were swimming too. We had to wipe them off in order to eat (now eating at restaurant). The spinach on the inside of the burrito was still raw and the potatoes were cold. This was an overall horrible experience. Other observations while waiting for our food... The cook had her finger in her mouth because she either burned or cut herself. There was a guy smearing cream cheese on bagels who was not wearing gloves. Overall this seems to be a poorly managed operation. The one good thing I will add is that the baked good in the showcase are unique and look amazing.

Staff is out to lunch. They were unaware of status of to go sandwich order. Do not go here for take out. Not set up to handle. 30 minutes to wait for a bagel and sandwich when the joint had plenty of seating. Horrible food. Greasy sandwich. No fries please? Nope. Fries piled high. Fruit instead? Nope. Little cup smashed in styrofoam and heated from sandwich so you get mush. Mustard instead of mayo? Nope. Cold bagel after being toasted probably 15 minutes earlier. Lox shoved to one side and partly warm. Just disgusting food and no attention to making basic edible food. My mistake to stop. Writing to steer you all clear.

I have had breakfast here a few times and the food is great! The staff is friendly and accommodating. What a great little café!

Good food and an horrible wait. My group of friends ended up waiting over an hour for food once it was ordered. Yes, it was the tail end of the busy morning business, but still... an hour for a burrito is ridiculous. And not worth it. Although the burrito was good, it was not quite good enough to justify the wait. If this place is remotely busy then keep driving. I have been here before and enjoyed prompt service (the place was empty), but it was not to be today. There were plenty of staff, but they just did not seem to be doing anything aside milling about. They seem to believe that you can only cook one thing at a time. Also, the friend who had the burrito originally wanted a sandwich, which they don't start serving until after 11. This normally wouldn't be a problem except it was 10:45 and they said no. This would not have stung so badly had the burrito arrived before 11, but since it came out at 11:55, my friends were left wondering why they could not have had the sandwich that they actually wanted since they would have been waiting long enough to fit within the arbitrary window of time during which lunch is served. Too bad, so sad, next time I will keep moving down the road and find someplace else. Pismo is full of tasty places. TLDR: 1 hour wait for burrito, tasty but not that good, next time will find something else.

Ok....that was the best breakfast I've ever had. If you're in town go here simple as that. Order the corned beef hash. I'll be trying to duplicate it at home.

While out riding bikes, we came across this place to grab some breakfast and coffee. What a good decision! The portions from the meals we ordered were huge! Both couples shared Lemon-Blueberry Pancakes-They had a glaze on them which made it sweet enough to not have syrup. We were all full and so glad we stumbled upon this place. The coffee hit the spot and was self-serve. We sat for almost two hours outside just enjoying our time eating, drinking coffee, talking and staying warm under the heaters. We never felt pressured by anyone to leave as in most restaurants. I kept looking around at other plates nearby and everything looked so good! I wish we lived closer...I definitely know where I will be coming back to when I'm back in town. There's a Foursquare deal here-check in and get $5 credit on your American Express statement when you spend $10 (but you have to register your card through Foursquare first).

I've been to this place a few times for breakfast. Usually the food is good but the service is always sketchy. I love their great pancake creations like Banana Toffee Crunch Pancakes and Chunky Monkey Pancakes and their great French Toast. Last week I decided to try the Scrambled Egg Sandwich because it looks awesome in the yelp pictures! It wasn't as good as it looks. The scrambled eggs were too undercooked for me. YUCK. I ended up scraping off a lot of the runny eggs and eating the rest of the huge sandwich. They entirely FORGOT to make the second breakfast on our order so I ate while my other half sat there and waited. Finally had to go in and ask the girl where the rest of our breakfast was. Her response "Oh, we forgot to make it". The girl working that morning wasn't the sharpest knife in the kitchen. About 5 minutes later she walked out with the rest of our meal looking for who it went to?!? Now... you must understand that we are the ONLY PEOPLE THERE AT THIS TIME!! She walks by with our food and then back in the building?!! I swear she was dumb as can be.... then she turns around when she sees there is NO ONE INSIDE and comes back out and asks "if this yours!?"........ uhhhh. DUH, I was just in there telling you that you forgot to make it!! Very bizarre!------- You may be cute girl, but you are dumb! Service is not the strong selling point of this place. Just go for the good Pancakes and/or French Toast and be patient with the (lack of) service!

Tim makes the best coffee in town. Great customer service. Liz is a fabulous cook. Best red velvet cupcakes I have ever had. Enjoyed a Spinach, Red Raspberry, Fresh Grill Chicken Breast, and Blue Cheese Salad today. I live around the corner and love to hang here and spend time with my dear friends.

Wow! This place is unassuming for how delicious and LARGE the food is here!! I had the Lox with bagel and it was delicious however they did not toast my bagel, nor ask for it to be toasted. I removed all the fixings and returned it to the server who graciously toasted it for me. Delicious! Home fries were way too salty. And it takes a lot of salt for me to say that! Definitely need to cut back on the salt, I couldn't even eat them. Mama got the egg scramble with ham and bacon and it was damn good and damn massive! It looks like they use 100 eggs!! Latte was perfect! Saw someone with the nutella stuffed french toast and even though I didn't try it I would say it's probably their most appetizing option on the menu! For indulgence, order that!!

What can I say? Simply the best eggs benedict. We had the smoked salmon eggs benedict two days in a row. Large english muffins, well toasted, with smoked salmon, raw spinach, eggs over easy and the lightest, most amazing hollandaise sauce ever. Seriously, I wanted to lick the plate. We also had their Belgian waffles with berries and vanilla sauce. I was not a fan of the vanilla sauce and opted for maple syrup instead, but the waffle was delicious - very buttery. The oatmeal is sizable, covered in berries and a little brown sugar - yummy. The coffee is delicious - they use Illy coffee. We will be back the next time we are in the area. We cannot wait!!!

  • Michelle Z.

Never in my life have I had pancakes as delicious as these. We ordered the short stack, not expecting anything extraordinary. These pancakes were crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside with a wonderful buttery taste. The oatmeal, bacon and coffee were wonderful as well. Nice outdoor seating. Can't wait to come back and try the maple bacon doughnut!

Have been here five times and the food has always been good, but the service has always been horrible. Three of the five times significant portions of our order were forgotten, and it took forever to get the missing food... As in the meal was over and we are still waiting for my daughter's pancakes! The other two times were just dealing with employees who would rather read their text messages than take our order, etc. we gave them five try's because we wanted to like them, but we won't be going back.

(I've added select items from the menu at the end of the review) This is my new favorite breakfast place on the Central Coast. The other positive reviews definitely ring true! Yes, the food takes a while to get, but that's what I expected at a small, popular cafe on the coast. It took us about 25 minutes to get our food but it was well worth it. In my opinion it was just more time to enjoy the ocean breeze and chat with my friend. I had the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict - 14.95 The smoked salmon was delicious - it really made the dish. The hollandaise sauce was also delicious. Note that the egg was fried and not poached. The serving was a very generous portion and I could barely finish the breakfast. We also had the French Toast and the bread was pretty thick. I think that it ended up being way too heavy for my taste. I also had a mango mimosa - 5.95 which was quite good. I would definitely recommend it to others. The location is about a two minute walk to the water as well for a pleasant walk after your meal. 8 tables outside and only a couple tables inside - bad for rainy weather. --------------------------------------------------------------------- $14.95 - smoked salmon eggs benedict $15.95 - original eggs benedict $7.95 - breakfast tostada $11.95 - doubled stuffed french toast $9.95 - garden goddess breakfast burrito $1.80 - Coffee of the day $4.15 - Chai latte $2.95 - iced tea $3.90 - iced latte $6.95 - Pom blue mimosa $5.95 - Naked OJ mimosa $5.95 - Bloody mary $5.95 - Screwdriver $6.95 - Mango mimosa $3.50 - Irish coffee

This was my second visit here. I was not impressed with the place after my first visit, but after my friend said his meal was amazing I was willing to give it another try. Never have I wanted a place to go out of business until now. I just don't understand how an order can take 45 mins and still come out raw! You would think that 45 mins is enough time to come out tell you that they ran out of one ingredient and are going to replace it with something else. So unless you like poor service, crappy attitudes, an extremely long wait and the wrong food PLEASE GO SOMEPLACE ELSE & LET'S MAKE THIS PLACE SHUT IT'S DOORS!

I am a proud local and want EVERYONE to know that this place is amazing. From the Shell Burro to the Eggs Benedict to the French Toast, I can go on and on. Now they are open until 6pm, which is nice so make sure to stop in and give them a try. You may have a bit of a wait but believe me when I say it is well worth it, I mean c'mon we had to wait for mamas home cooking right. GOOD EATIN!!!!!!!!

After some really bland meals I was pleased to come here. Everything was fresh and tasty. My husband loved his breakfast. Now--the negatives: Its a small place and a bit hard to get out of sun. The seating isn't that comfortable but its got personality. I had the corned beef hash. Flavorful but it was really a grilled piece of corned beef--not exactly hash. A little slow but worth it.

This place was very good, wouldn't let the low stars deter you! My party had the blueberry pancakes, turkey sandwich, and one of the scrambles. All of it was very good and very fresh. All of us were satisfied. The illy coffee here is very good too. Although a little pricey, it was great.

This review is for the Corned Beef on St. Patty's day! A M A Z I N G!!!!! It did take awhile for the food to come, but it was well worth it! The place is very small and if you go there for breakfast it is a little too cold to be sitting outside. The decaf was hot and tasted very good! The staff was very friendly and I heard him ask everyone who came in where there were from I thought that was pretty cool! I still would recommend this place to anyone!

One of my favorite breakfast restaurants. Their pancakes have a delicious crispy edge but a fluffy interior. The white syrup that they use is perfect. They home make their bread for the eggs Benedict. However, one time I went and they had not put them in the oven yet. Their waffles are worthy also!

So i went in on a Sunday afternoon (it was pretty crowded) i eat here with my son about once a month ( im a local and i live right down the street) but after thus visit i am never going back. I ordered the hangover and two eggs any way. I asked for the two eggs any way to be scrambled and more done than usual. It was going to be about fifteen minutes till the order was ready and my Son was becoming ancy so we walked back to the house while waiting for the food. I come back about fifteen minutes later and ask for my order. The man ( i believe he is the owner) goes to the back to grab my food. I can see him from the front and he is talking to the cook and seems mad. I can tell from the way they are talking that my food is not ready, and possibly hadn't even started being made. He comes back to the register and looks nervous but does not inform me of anything and just walks back to the cook. He starts getting mad at her again and waving my receipt, in assuming he was telling her to start making my order. He comes back to the register and lets me know that the food will be ready inn a few minutes.one of the cashiers made my blended carm mocha while i was waiting. After about five minutes he hands me my food and i leave. When i get home and hungrily open the to go boxes, i become absolutely disappointed. The eggs for my hangover are mushy and undercooked, there are barely any beans, too much green sauce, and not spicy whatsoever.it was completely disgusting. My sons scrambled eggs were the same, and i had asked for them extra cooked (not undercooked), the bacon was greasy and floppy, like they had made it twenty minutes before and had sitting inn the pan filled with grease, and my sons toast was completely soggy from the eggs and bacon grease. When i go somewhere, especially local, and i pay over thirty dollars for a meal, i expect it to be amazing, or at least decent.this was completely gross and disappointing. And to make matters worse, i did not even receive an apology for ths added wait. My advice to you is; don't go here! Unless you want undercooked eggs and soggy toast.

Best Illy (Italian ) expresso on the Central Coast! Best, fresh pastries and if you have never had a real, homemade, fresh & warm croisannt, you must have them here. Burgers are super high quality grass fed beef, may be the best burger on the coast ! Love the Eggs Benedict and Oatmeal with fresh fruit. Super nice staff and best -out -of- the way ( read no tourist) cafe. Excellent Beer and Wine too. A local hot spot.

A cute little shop with a very pleasant heated patio seating area, and newpapers lying about to peruse. If it is raining or too cold, beware - there is not much seating inside, maybe enough for 6. I stopped in at 8:15. Oooh! Smoke salmon benedict. That's what I want. "I'm sorry, we only serve that after 9". Oh. There are lots of things they only serve after 9. . .but you can get eggs and French toast and stuff before then. Just don't go in before 9 expecting any kind of Benedict. Unless the guy sitting in there was named that or somethin', I don't know. Heh. I was in no hurry. I took a walk down to the beach, saw the Shell Beach sights. I got back about 9:30, with a better appetite anyway. I ordered a Cafe Breve, which was really outstanding, and the Smoked Salmon Benedict. The order of the day is to order at the counter, sit, and they bring to you. I went outside and sat. Enjoyed the coffee very much. Didn't want to finish coffee before got food. Carefully timed it. . .about 12 minutes later, a woman came out and said. . ."you know, we actually don't get our salmon until tomorrow. Do you want something else?" Wondering why this realization took so long, I said sure. . . at this point, any kind of Benedict is fine. Give me the regular ol' canadian bacon, por favor. So, 15 minutes later, I got their homemade "english muffin", which was dense and yeasty and not particularly english muffiny, and looked like it had been grilled til quite brown face down, making it impervious to any sauce that would have wanted to be soaked into it. on top of the halves was raw spinach. Then - two pieces of Ham. It was not Canadian Bacon. It was Ham. Two Fried Eggs, over easy. Not poached in the least. And on top of all of it, some very reasonable Hollandaise. The spinach wilted slightly from the heat of the stuff on top, so it was ok. The potatoes were fine. It was on a pretty plate. They eggs and ham were good enough, but it really and truly was not eggs Benedict. I would call it Shell Beach Eggs Hammaise. Or. . something. But it was an outstanding Cafe Breve, and I hear the French Toast is good. I would give it another try.

On a recent trip from Cambria to Long Beach, my MIL and I stopped for a snack break. We stumbled upon Seaside with the help of Google Maps on my Iphone. It turned out be a cute find. Limited indoor seating; more seating outside. They have have really enticing breakfast items well as cold and hot sandwiches. The half turkey sandwich, half salad was good, however, the sandwich had more veggies, little meat, and barely enough bread to cover everything. My MIL absolutely loved the pesto tortellini pasta salad, accompanied with greens and fruit that also reeked of fresh garlic. If you love garlic, that is the dish for you. Service is slow but apparently, they had 1 cook that day. Parking available on the street. Prices are on the high side.

After I ordered my Bleu and Bacon Scramble, I was told there would be a 30 minute wait for the food. I thought this would be acceptable if the food turned out to be worth that wait. Alas, the food was so horribly mediocre that it was rather inedible. There was a 1/2 inch of liquid grease pooled at the bottom of my plate. The potatoes were thoughtlessly cooked, burned on some sides, barely cooked on the others, and virtually unseasoned. The scramble itself, oh, the scramble. I know how to cook great scrambled eggs; i assumed it was something the cooks at the Seaside Cafe would know how to do as well. When you put bacon in a scramble, you need to make it extra crispy so that when the eggs rehydrate it, it doesn't become a flaccid, soggy mess. The bacon was a flaccid, soggy mess--blubbery and anemic. The eggs were most likely distractedly scrambled on the grill itself, because not only were they greasy and overcooked beyond reason, making them rubbery and tough and smell like tires, but they were also not even thoroughly mixed. The yellow and the whites were hopelessly separated, like someone had tried to make eggs over easy, messed up, and after cooking the bejesus out of it, put them on my plate. The bleu cheese and spinach making up the rest of the scramble were throwaways. The scramble also was virtually unseasoned. Also, the Earl Grey Tea was sort of dusty tasting (no sharp bergamot flavors). In the end: overpriced, long wait, disgusting savory food, bleh tea. Needless to say, I ate maybe 1/4 of my food and will never return and pay for food here again. I've heard the "sweet breakfasts" are good, but I will not return to find out.

The pancakes and French toast are all covered in frosting!!?! This should be served on the side as it makes the dish way too sweet. Service was marginal - they forgot us after people around us were served. Just ok

Our friends turned us on to this place and it's our favorite! Things to know: 1. Your meal WILL take a minimum of 30 minutes but you're by the water and when the weather's nice, sit back, relax, and enjoy 2. It's a small place. You'll want to go when the weathers decent because the best seating is outside with space heaters. Our favorites are Monkey Pancakes To Die For French Toast Only had one meal there that we went wasn't worth the wait or price and we go there frequently!

I've driven past this place tons of times and never thought to give it a shot....until last week when I had family in town. We had an amazing breakfast here. Coffee is great, food is awesome and service was good even though it

Yes it's a little pricey... Yes the wait is pretty long... All I can say is, it's worth it!!! I seriously can't find a place like this in L.A. and it pains me to think that I can only enjoy this kind of breakfast when I'm town.

  • Max G.

I think the other Yelpers have this place spot-on. The food is stupendous, the service is iffy. How much you enjoy Seaside Cafe will thus depend on where your priorities lie. If you're in a hurry don't order something they have to cook - it may be delayed. You will need to remind the staff what you ordered if it doesn't arrive with the rest of your meal because they probably forgot. Yes, even if you're the only people there. If you want views of the ocean ... well then go to a beachfront restaurant! Fortunately we were in no hurry and were well rewarded for the wait with a scrumptious brunch. We'll certainly be back next time we're rolling through the area.

Friendly staff. Would have given 5 stars if they hadn't burnt my french toast. But I still loved it anyways. I mean, nutella, cream cheese stuffed french toast with fresh bananas and clouded with whipped cream? NOMSSS. A must eat, but not if you're on a diet. A sweet tooth's dream spot. I'm not sure about the big portions that I read. Its decent, but not for the price.

My eccentric family who returns for Thanksgiving has consisted of spouses from different countries (and circus performers), foster kids, men who live in the garage and a multitude of bizzzaro animals (at one point we had over 500 bird and reptiles living in our house as bequest by my dying uncle), so nothing surprises me. This year the crowd grew and the one day holiday stretched into three and by Sunday, someone else was doing the cooking. I packed the caravan and headed to Seaside Café on Shell Beach road. Liz and her husband, Tim Begovich own the Seaside Café. and offer amazing dishes. Gary started with a chocholate croissant and a blueberry muffin. He generously shared (a rare treat that only happens after he has eaten ten pies). Then he tried the Shell Burro and enormous burrito stuffed with hash browns, eggs, cheese, apple/chicken sausage and covered in a green salsa that was incredible. Our friends ordered the banna pancakes with a sweet sugar sauce, fresh sliced bananas scarrered throughout. The big guys got the Shell Scramble which was a feast of breakfast and consisted of scrambled eggs, sausuge pieces and whole baked tomatoes, spinich, hashbrowns and more. They shared a side of Boars Head Bacon that was too good not to sample. My meal was the envy of all, the Sunset Eggs Benedict with steak and mushrooms on top of Liz's famous hand made English muffins with poached eggs, homemade hollandaise, and served with some of the best potatoes in the known universe. The English muffins are moist and buttery, the steak perfectly cooked and juicy. Portions here are massive as evidenced not by my own breakfast but by all our friends' dishes. The hidden strength of the Seaside Café are the fresh baked goods. Liz makes english muffins from scratch (which she uses to make the best egg sandwich I have ever tasted, including egg, cheese, onions and avocado). Each day she bakes scones, danish, cinnamon rolls, brownies, bars and more. Liz is self-taught, Oprah approved, and pours love into each spoonful. Tim is gracious, sweet and will make you the best coffee drink (they are the only restaurant in the area to serve ILLY espresso from Italy) while asking about your day. Seaside Café is located at1327 Shell Beach Road in Pismo Beach, or call them at (805) 773-4360.

Thank you yelp for sending me here. The breakfast was well worth the wait (one chef). I will absolutely go back and recommend it to friends that want brilliant and simple bistro inspired food. The coffee is great! I don't recommend it if your a fast food snob (they exist)....

The portions are huge, the menu is tasty and the gentlemen behind the counter is a sweetheart. We had breakfast here with our dog and really enjoyed our meal. The eggs benedict had a flavorful hollandaise and served with spinach, canadian bacon on a crusty bread. Hubby had the ginormous breakfast burrito. Coffee was really good too. Only bummer was they were out of their specialty english muffins.

there is an outdoor siting area. the inside is not that big probably only a few tables and chairs. they yell out your name and have you come inside to pick up your drink orders. for food they would bring it out to you. the bf and i were not sure about the tipping scenario but we did leave tip at the counter. we both ordered egg benedict. it was very big! they put spinach i believe inside and if you like that then you're set to eat. but the bf and i didnt so i had to pick it out. overall they were good! just after the first half i couldn't eat anymore. the portion was huge and i guess i should have expected it since it was like 14 bucks for one plate. it does include some hashbrowns. there is parking on the street. and it did take a long time to get the food. the guy ringing people up seemed a bit rude. not just to me but to another customer but overall i thought seaside was good.

I AM IN LOVE. Such a cute place, sweet people and delicious food. I have only had their breakfast but i cant wait to try more. The "To Die For French Toast" really is to die for. Quality food and I will be back very soon.

Big portion, feed me well to get on the road. Nice outside atmosphere, can smell the ocean breeze, no inside sitting area though.

This is some GOOD stuff! Randomly found this amazing spot on this here Tuesday morning - and wow am I glad. A just right bloody mary, amazing gourmet "eggs tostada" and a beautiful setting. This "tostada" had slightly sweet and earthy yams, fresh spinach leaves, fried eggs, black beans, and salsa verde to top. Fresh, flavorful, and great textures made this absolutely fabulous. I will come back her many many many times - and hope the nice couple running this place keep this magical little spot up and running. Try it out - you'll be pleased!

Wanted to love this. Slow service (we were the only ones there). Eggs benedict was cold. Eggs seemed fried not poached. Swimming in hollandaise. English muffin gummy. Lattes were good! Server was very friendly. The bathroom looked like it hadnt been cleaned for days. Will not be back.

I love everything about this place. The baked goodies are amazing, as well as anything that the tiny little kitchen cranks out. Everything is super fresh and delicious. For those complaining about the price and long wait, drive over to Denny's and get the Grand Slam, you cheap fucks.

The people are friendly and the food is phenomenal! Most of their stuff is special ordered and catered to your foodie needs. The location is gorgeous and all the atmosphere is excellent. Ask for "Phils Usual" it's on the secret menu. 4 eggs, 4 thick boars head bacon slices, side of red potatoes and avo/tomato slices served with a fig vinegar. I drive from Cal Poly all the way out here to eat at least once a week, that's dedication. Can't go wrong with this place!

I wanted to like this place. However, it was not meant to be. The food was good, but probably not worth the prices, and definitely not worth the hour+ wait. Add to this some rather surly service too! We went here on a Saturday around noon for breakfast/lunch with four people in our party. We ordered 3 sandwiches and a breakfast burrito. The place was moderately full, but top capacity at this place is only about 12 people. It is a tiny restaurant. We should have known better- right before we ordered a woman was complaining to the person at the counter that only one of their orders had arrived. And then after ordering, we realized that the place only had one cook, who seemed to be working in some sort of a closet with a stove. Our drinks were gone long before our food arrived, and we asked (politely!) three times if all was well with our order. The waitress seemed to be under the impression that she was doing us a favor by even speaking to us, and never really gave us an answer or checked on our order. We all took bets on how long it was actually going to take us to get any food. After a full hour, the sandwiches arrived. Five minutes later, the burrito showed up. And then, after all of this, they wanted us to bus our own tables! It was truly some of the worst service we had ever experienced.

It's a very cute bakery/restaurant. The food was really good! I got the eggs benedict and my sister got the banana french toast. Both were good. I would definitely go back again if I'm in the area!

Food is ok, but wait way too long-30 minutes for quiche and 35 for pancakes when told by the Katherine, who was not friendly that it would be 20 minutes.

YUM and YUM! The coffee was superb and the breakfast was filling and full of flavor! And the sun on the patio was just what this cold climate resident needed in late March! Thanks for good tunes and delicious grub! AND, no TV!!! Thanks!

We found this cafe on January 2, 2010 (my anniversary). We instantly fell in love with it, and have been back many times over the past year. They serve the yummiest, HUGE portion breakfasts ever! My favorites are the Green Goddess burrito and tostada, AND the blueberry pancakes. Oh, and the oatmeal is to die for. Wow, I just realized I could continue to name all the stuff on the menu! Really, I haven't tried anything I don't like there. Well, I got a scone once that didn't seem very fresh, but only that one time. We are headed back there tomorrow for our anniversary again. It will now be a tradition for us :-) The prices are kind of high, but you get what you pay for, as the portions are large and the food is so fabulous! Most dishes could feed a couple of people. Treat yourself and try Seaside Cafe as soon as possible!!!

We dropped by here for breakfast on our way back to LA from Paso Robles. The man at the counter warns us the wait for food is going to be 40 min! After quickly deliberating amongst the group we decided there was really no where else nearby and we may as well stick around. THE WAIT WAS WELL WORTH IT! I ordered the toffee-banana pancakes and they were like heaven, and piled with whipped cream. I'm pretty sure they will lead to early onset diabetes, but thats fine with me. I also tried the breakfast sandwich and the eggs benedict, both were absolutely fantastic. I'm so glad we found this adorable little spot. The only bad thing is that I wish I had ordered one of their espresso drinks instead of drip coffee. The drip is self-served out of those thermos dispenser things, and was not so great, however my friend's mocha was delish!

OH. MY. GOD. I came to Pismo Beach on mini-vacay with the parents and initially, we would go here just for coffee. Once we ordered breakfast, however, we were back every day. The first thing I got here, which was by far my favorite, was the Seaside French Toast. AH-mazing. The toast pieces were fat and fresh, made to order. The berries (strawberries, raspberries and blueberries) that came with it were all in PERFECT condition, sweet and fresh. It was served with icing instead of maple syrup, which wasn't cloyingly sweet and matched perfectly with the toast and the berries. Heaven. Their portions are huge (one day I got the lox and bagels, SO much lox!) and they have delicious coffee and a good tea selection. There is a wait after you order your food, but it is well worth it. Pull up a chair and enjoy your coffee or choose another place because that means my food will come out faster. If you're not in a hurry, this is a great breakfast stop. The friendly owner will come out and talk with you, the atmosphere is cozy and the food is phenomenal. If I'm ever in the area, I WILL be back.

Good coffee. Nowhere to sit inside. I know there is a back room to the place. Room was there when it was a bookstore. Should have inside seating. Sitting outside next to freeway sucks. Good coffee though.

We decided to try breakfast here after watching a special on the hotel TV. I read all the reviews about the wait and was somewhat reluctant to go ahead with our plans, but I am so glad we did! We went on a Saturday morning and had no trouble finding a table and our food arrived quickly. The staff was very friendly and helpful! We ordered the All American Scramble and the Pineapple Upside Down pancakes. Both were out of this world and the servings were huge! It was so great we decided to go back the next morning and again had no problem finding a seat and the food came out quickly. This time we ordered the breakfast burrito and the French toast. Both items were incredible and again there was more than enough food on each of our plates. I was disappointed when all my food was gone, knowing it would be a while before I got to eat this awesome food. We can't wait to go back and take our children. I've been telling everyone they need to try this place soon!

Ate here recently on a Saturday - after the breakfast rush. There were only 6 other tables occupied. Half of them had their food, and the others had ordered before our party. It took over an hour to get our food. The dishes we ordered were good, a bit overpriced, but there is no excuse for the slowness of the kitchen. Will not be back.

What a nice pit-stop. I hadn't intended to have such a great lunch, but alas, I did! I wish I could remember now, but I had some really good Turkey sandwich with Avo and maybe even sprouts? Regardless, It was yummy. Yummier than my counter-part's Chicken something or other sandwich..I think it had a curry sauce? Can't remember. Yum.

TO GO REVIEW: For a late breakfast I had: Egg Benedict W/Smoked Salmon: A combination of two eggs, toasted croissants, spinach leaf, and a side of hash browns. The BEST I ever had. Eggs were perfectly done without being too greasy. The croissants were toasted just the right way again without being too greasy. Hash browns was solid and the smoke salmon was delicious. Oatmeal & Berries: So what? I'm conservative! The oatmeal...you can't mess up but what I like was a good portion of mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries) Looks like a couple running this place...very cute. It's relatively small and not cheap ($22 for me) but very well worth it. Besides, if you are trying to be cheap in Pismo...go to McD's or something. Definitely a place to come back if you don't want to go to downtown for breakfast.

I ordered the french toast twice, great breakfast the first time, the second time it had too much sugar and butter on it. The food is delicious but ask them to go light on the extra butter and sugar they put on top!

Horrendous service. Not that I think the mantra "the customer is always right" is necessarily an accurate one. But this place's mantra is "the customer is never right." The owner is either just neutral and takes your order with a scowl (on a good day) or down right rude (on most days). I've eaten at this establishment quite a few times, actually, because it could be quite inviting...i always enjoy sitting outside and their food is actually quite delicious. But I don't think I can patronize this establishment anymore after feeling like a burden and an annoyance too many times. And the outdoor seating is quite uncomfortable which negates the sunshine. I don't care how good you think your food is (or even how good I think your food is), it doesn't give you the right to ignore me or argue with me when I tell you that you messed up my order. You messed up...the polite thing to do would be to apologize....not look annoyed or tell me "that's the way we make it" in a "deal with it" sort of tone.

It took 10 min just to place our order (we were the first in line). Then we waited an additional 30 minutes for our three turkey/cheese sandwiches. Although they were out of cheese (replaced with shredded), the food was good. Not necessarily worth the price and wait.

My husband and I happened upon this place on our honeymoon and ended up eating here for 3 of our 4 breakfasts that week. Since then we've been back 2 more times. All of our experiences have been consistent, and everything we've eaten has been great! 1. The bagel sandwiches are HUGE. Very flavorful with fresh ingredients, and obviously messy and require a knife and fork. 2. Belgian waffle - my favorite. Thick, fluffy waffle piled high with fresh fruit... mmmm. Doesn't get any better. 3. French Toast - on the level of the waffle! Best French Toast I've had - it is very sweet though. 4. THE POTATOES. You may be asking how a potato could excite me so much. Thinking about those potatoes makes me drool. We always order a side of their potatoes to go with our meals because there's no way we can NOT order them. I wish there was more indoor seating available. We've been when the weather was not very friendly and we had to sit outside in the cold wind. The only other drawback is that it can take 25+ minutes to get your food even if it's not busy. I don't mind at Seaside Cafe because you know you're waiting for excellence.

Every good thing you may have read below is true. I love this place so much. everything is good. EVERY thing. Sure, it takes a while for your food to come out, but c'mon, there's only one chef cooking at a time, the place is pretty teeny. So wait, relax, grab a steamer, and enjoy. Come for brunch and you won't be disappointed =) P.S You might want to go for a stroll on the beach to walk off all the yummy carbs

Hands down the best around Pismo and SLO. This is the secret that you might have some trouble finding without GPS. I go here every time I'm in Pismo and I am never disappointed. Huge portions without the sacrifice of quality. Order a benedict dish and you'll taste the homemade English Muffin. I see some reviews that complain that they take longer than usual. Realize that these reviews don't take into account that you need time to make things fresh from scratch. Also they have great coffee and super fresh deli window. If you are in Pismo and have time to relax and enjoy the fresh air, go here and transport to another dimension of yummy goodness. I will be back soon!

Damn good! My wife and I stopped in for lunch. I ordered a salad and quiche, both were massive. I had to take them in a go-to box. My salad was piled with garlic and olive oil, some kind of turbo pesto. I reeked of garlic for two days! Now that some damn good eating. Oh and they have Graffeo coffee!

This place is awesome!!! It is very small and has a small menu so those who are more selective eaters may not find exactly what they want. However, everything they do make is done with excellence. I went there during vacation with 3 other people and all of our breakfasts were delicious. The french toast and pancakes were amazing and could pass as desserts. The Eggs Benedict was done with home made hollandaise sauce and English Muffins. Everything was extremely fresh tasting. I will definitely visit this place for breakfast anytime I am in Pismo.

The coffee here is amazing and I visit quite often. Today was the first day I decided to try the food. When we ordered we were told a 20-30 minute wait for it. We ordered two English muffins and French toast. An hour later we're still waiting. This better be some damn good breakfast.

Came here after a 9 mile run at the Bob Jones trail. Literally my friend and I stumbled along this place looking for another place. We were so intrigued by all of the menu options that we didn't know what to choose. I finally decided on the Breakfast Tostada and she went with the Garden Burrito. We got our drinks and sat down, 30 minutes later we realized that we hadn't received our food. We think that there was a mix up and our order was never put in. The servers was really nice and apologized several times for our wait. Our food was so good! The tostada had 2 corn tortillas, spinach, black beans and garlic sweet potato mash with 2 fried eggs on top. I was hesitant about how the eggs would work into all of those flavors but it was excellent and just the right amount that I was full after eating it. My friend's burrito was so huge that upon seeing it she knew she wouldn't be able to eat it all. She loved it also mentioning that the sweet potato mash really made the burrito delicious. Like others have said this place is pretty small, but they have a good size patio if you're interested in eating outside. The prices I find to be a little pricy, for the size of my tostada I don't know that charging $7 is the way to go but the quality of the food is definitely amazing and the flavors were on point. Best little place I have stumbled on to in a long time!

We visited this little place on a rainy day in December. Just off the main drag, parking was a bit challenging. We had to park on the city street in front of a "SPA PARKING ONLY" sign. I figured, a) the spa was closed and b) it's a city street- they can't enforce spa parking only on a city street! Then again, there was a "Postal Worker Parking Only" sign for the spot next to ours, but I question whether or not Pismo Beach PD or the U.S. Postal Service Inspectors would be able to enforce that. Anyway... the place is pretty tiny- seating for six inside and then most of the seating (five or six tables that seat up to four each) is outdoors and heated. The size of the place reminded me of a Subway sandwich place. Seaside Cafe & Bakery had a great selection of breakfast items. We wanted orange juice, so they directed us to the glass case of beverages and grabbed a two bottles of the Naked brand OJ. Their eggs benedict was one of their specials- and being eggs benedict aficionados, we each ordered ourselves some (at approx. $14 a plate). I always get my eggs runny- with all of the yolk soaked into the English muffin, yummmm.... My wife always gets the eggs poached hard. My wife loved her eggs benedict and I loved mine. They did a nice job on the potatoes as well. Oh boy, it was heavy though. Had a hard time walking back to the car after that meal!

I recently drove through Shell Beach and thought I would take some time to reflect on my experience here, again... so I will keep this one short. This place is hands down the best breakfast place have ever experienced in my entire life. Nothing in this cruel world will ever compare to their english muffins. I would be willing to move back to SLO county simply for this place. My discovery of this place was as monumental is Chritopher Columbus' voyage to the Americas. That's it. Thats all I have to say. The End

This place is awesome for breakfast. Huge portions, so worth the price. I was a little sketchy on looking at the menu and the prices but well worth it. Only reason for four stars is very minimal seating outdoors and even smaller inside. You have to keep your eyes open when your trying to find the place,if you blink you'll pass it right up. will definitely be going again.

I'd like to give this place a great rating... ah, but for the owner (the guy who usually works the register). He's intermittently rude and condescending. Even my friend from the Bay area couldn't believe his attitude the one and only time she went to this place. Yes, the food is good-- even great... but unless someone other than the owner is serving you you may very well come away feeling belittled. It's too bad b/c I think the food is worth the standard long wait.

We were looking for some non-fast food to soak up the wine on the journey from LA to the bay area, and yelp led me to the Seaside Cafe. The cafe is right off of 101 and in a cute, shanty-like building. There are only like two small tables inside, and the rest of the seating is outdoors. This proved to be sort of a problem when it started raining when we were eating outside . . but a super nice employee covered up the area with big umbrellas and maneuvered the heat lamp close to us so we weren't too cold. The menu is written on chalk boards on the sides of the walls, breakfast is on the right and lunch is on the left. There was another chalkboard menu on the floor that I saw on my way to the restroom which was not visible from the front that apparently you could also order from. . . not too effective. The food? It was just okay. I got the blueberry pancakes, and they were the super thick, cakey kind of pancakes. They were decent, but they didn't blow my mind or anything.

I ordered a side of scrambled eggs. It's been over an hour and I'm still waiting, while the rest of my party is eating their eggs Benedict, banana pancakes and full order of eggs. I wish I knew how it tasted...

Seaside Eggs Benedict. WOW is all I can say. Probably the best I have ever had. And that is saying a lot coming from a woman who searches breakfast joints for an amazing Eggs Benedict. The restaurant itself is set up for outdoor seating. There are heating lamps outside for the chill, but if you are looking for indoor seating, this is not the place. I deducted one star because smoking was going on in the patio and with the close proximity of tables, you didn't have a choice to move away from the billows. To each his own, but being pregnant it was gagging. Thankfully the only table inside was open ;). Now to the important part!!!!! Start the dish with a HOMEMADE ENGLISH MUFFIN. You heard me right. HOMEMADE. That MADE the dish! topped with a huge thick real slice of ham, poached then flash fried egg, asparagus, and as told by the waiter, made to order fresh hollandaise. Wow people. You got it SO right with this dish. My husband and I are planning a trip to Pismo just to have the Benedict again!

I'm so happy to see this small place tucked away in Shell Beach. Wish this place was around when I was growing up in the area. Though I've only had breakfast here, I want to come back for lunch. The pancakes with lemon glaze are good, and I like their coffee. Owner/staff are great. I like their concept - fresh, tasty food in an intimate, outdoor setting. I mean tasty even by San Francisco standards (because you know how many times "delicious" food around here actually turns out to be "mediocre/bland" food). Keep it up! Though some may find this place too small, I for one love its size and find it a perfect place to bring a close friend or family member. The size also seems to lend to good quality control over the food. ** Edit ** Got to give this place five stars, because you're not going to find such an intimate, casual, quality food place near the ocean like this. The fact that I want to go back over and over again says something about the experience this place has created for me :)

We were here for breakfast and were really looking forward to it based on all the stellar reviews. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed and felt it was really expensive. The cafe itself is super cute and homey, and the service is really friendly. But to spend $30 on a mediocre waffle and so-so lox and bagel, 2 beverages, and a coffee cake (and to wait 45 minutes for it) is kind of outrageous. All that said, the coffee cake was really good, and I'm sure the other items in the bakery case are great. If I do come back, I might just stick with a muffin or scone.

There are times in a girls life when high heels and dry cleaning, Blackberry's and dirty martinis, car payments and renters insurance become obsolete. When burying your toes through layers of warm sand as you watch two Labrador retrievers chase tennis balls in the ocean is your top priority, and sun tan lotion and kelp replace the stench of overpriced and overrated bagel shops and manufactured chain coffee. At this point in your life you fall in love with cheaply made flimsy sun dresses, the sight of fresh beach towels chokes you up, you enviously eye the girl at the table next to you who is wearing the coolest plain white t-shirt with homemade holes and knots, and you don't bother to sweep the large sand kernels off your legs. After a refreshing dip in the ocean, nothing is better than a thick slab of homemade bread with crisp and fresh curry chicken salad. After a night of beers and a beach bonfire with topless men and mediocre pot, nothing beats a pile of Huevos Rancheros and a mug of Illy, the most extraordinary, rich, delicious coffee to ever grace your lips. Roll out of bed with tussled hair, sheet creases still indented in your cheeks, throw on something loose that most definitely has never been in the pages of Vogue, and ride your bike over to Seaside Cafe & Bakery for some chit chat with the colorful gay man who's mad (as in super jazzed) about the weather and his iphone, a down-home, shabby yet charming ambiance with rickety outdoor tables and water bowl for your dog face, and incredibly delicious and high quality food that makes you want to pitch a tent on the beach and never leave this place. P.S. This review may or may not have been written with the intention to be in the voice of one Marissa Cooper from The OC, but you know, without the whole overdosing in Tijuana and dying in her car thing.

Delicious Pastrami sandwich! Took it home after ordering by phone. Solved the long wait problem. Nice people. You should try it. Have been there several times to eat in the small patio. I don't mind the not so long lag time. Small place, small staff. It takes time to make the food right.

We stopped on our way down to SB. What a fun little place. The outside patio was so cute, with trellis around each bench. The food was tasty too. My friend ordered the turkey sandwich and it was the best ever. The bread was thick and so tasty. It was a wonderful sandwich. I had the caprese salad which was ok. It's a great place to stop. The people are friendly and even tho a little pricey, totally worth it.

Pull off of 101 South into Sea Side, and time stands still. Literally. It took 30 minutes from when we ordered to when we actually got our food this morning. Not like we were ordering off of the menu or anything either. The food, when it did arrive, was delicious. And if I had been in a leisurely mood, or had an hour and a half to spend eating two pieces of french toast for $8, I would be much more endeared to this homey little outfit. The espresso in our Americanos was excellent: smooth, not burnt, and strong. But even those took 15 minutes to materialize. Stop here if you have all day. You certainly won't save time or money, but it will be tasty.

I have no idea why this place is getting such good reviews. Four stars, really? I had a very different experience than most of the posters here. First off, there is nothing 'seaside' about this place. Take a look at the map in the upper right corner, the road it's located on, Shell Beach Rd, is basically a frontage road along Hwy 101. So, you have a lovely view of the highway and cars and trucks while you eat. The food was marginal at best and took forever. My wife and I had our kids with us and the staff seemed completely annoyed by that. My advice, skip this place and look for something downtown SLO.

A small cafe with gourmet choices. Order inside from their large menu selection (breakfast until 1) and sit in the cafe or out on their colorful patio. I had a grilled cheese with pesto grilled tomato& 4 cheeses. Finger licking good!

5 stars for their eggs benedict, which was homemade from the biscuits to the sauce. My wife considered it as one of the best she's ever had, which says a lot as she always orders it no matter where we go - she thought she was in heaven at a place in Carmel that had 15+ different kinds of it!) I ventured out to try the breafast tostada, which was good - just a little bit more kick to it than I expected for that early in the morning. Their pastries were also very good and fresh.

I've been to the Seaside Cafe exactly three times, and I'll be stopping there. Two of the three times my food was really good, even borderline excellent. But this place reminded me that a meal consists of more than food, and despite a second and even a third attempt, I'm afraid it seems the people working there are simply not nice. If you think you can derive pleasure from a meal where you must interact with people who consistently convey an air of miserable entitlement, I say go for it. For my money, though, there are better places to get breakfast just up the road.

A great little cafe in the heart of Shell Beach. The food is fresh, creative, and delicious. Tim the owner and his wife are there every day. Great for breakfast or lunch. Everything is made to order, service can be just a tad slow at times, but hey, you're in Shell Beach hangin' loose. What's the rush? The food is worth the wait. Not real crowded either. Outside patio tables and space heaters when it's cold. Goooood stuff here!

OMG..can you say "diner's drives in and dives?" Cause this little shop w/the friendly owner & chef has the perfect setting for Guy Fieri. What a treasure in Pismo Beach. I live in Nor.Cal & I miss the food everyday. I got the filet mignon/portobello mushroom egg Benedict - now, that's what I call BRUNCH - lunch & breakfast mashed into one! *drool* my portion was huge, 2 large benedicts ($13-15). Amazing culinary hollandaise sauce, not too fatty/oily/salty - nice & creamy - just right! I love mushroom & the filet mignon was cooked to perfection - tender! Then you have the drippy hollandaise sauce, cutting into your poached egg w/yolk oozing out, soak it with the English muffin - you got yourself a WINNER! Bf got the pastrami sandwich with slaw & he said it was one of the best pastrami he had, not too salty, smoked with flavor. The slaw was the perfect balance. After our meal, we walked towards the ocean with a spicy Mexican Illy's coffee - to my surprise, the spiciness was the perfect balance with the chocolatediness. Here on after, I will make an effort or detour just to stop by Seaside & eat here. Lots of locals come here too - so you know this is the real stuff!

Food is interesting, harty, and decently tasty but they tend to run out of items near lunch time. They were out of homemade English muffins so they used a croisant in my eggs Benedict without telling me. Was still good. Service was really slow with the lunch crowd, server just didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Food is expensive. If they raise the bar on their service I certainly don't mind paying their prices.

Ok a little over priced for what you get. Eggs Benedict had a fried egg and the sign said no substitutes but they made substitutes because they ran out of asparagus. English muffin tasted fresh baked but a little thick. I guess ok.

horrible service and zero personality from both the person working the counter and the lady owner in the kitchen...went twice to give it a try....both times the service was deadpan and they could care less if they waited on you. Service horrible, chicken salad sandwich horrible...time before, roll dry and tastless....They fixed up the outside, but they could use the friendliness of when their parents owned it.......no thanks anymore.

Eh..... I admit the Shell Burro was good. My boyfriend got the soggy, covered in a powered sugar frosting substance (ick) French toast. Overpriced menu, uncomfortable chairs, and over an hour wait for the food. I probably would have been more patient had the mimosa they had on the menu and the beer they had displayed in the case was able to be served but we were promptly told they are not serving alcohol at this time... Maybe you should take it off the menu and not be such a tease. We will stick with Zorro's down the street in the future. Even with their long waits, it would probably have been faster.

this cafe is very cute and the staff are very friendly. i've been here twice now and they have really good food. i've tried the ham, cheese sandwich with a side of salad and this morninig i had the scrambled eggs and ham sandwich with avocado, tomatoes, red onions and a side of potatoes. this was an english muffin breakfast sandwich... their english muffins are home made and not put in a toaster. these guys heat their muffins over a griddle i think...so yummy. i've had a few bites of the banana pancakes and the waffles, too -- also very delicious. there's an outside seating area where they allow dogs. this morning it was almost like a mini dog park -- so many dogs with their parents eating breakfast outside. very chill and laid back environment.

I really wanted to like this place. It was cute with a funky vibe and the food was pretty good, but not worth the 40 minutes it took from the time we placed our order at the counter to the the time it hit the table. During that time about 5 orders were served. I'm not sure why, but it was really slow. Very disappointing. At one point, the server brought out a blackened croissant sandwich to a neighboring table. The middle was only slightly blackened, but the ends were completely charred. Instead of saying she would comp it or get the customer a new one. She did tell her she could have her money back, but, "It's still good. You can still eat it." It has so much potential, but I think the business model needs a little improvement. I never mind waiting for good food, but 40 minutes is over the top! As a former server, telling a customer that charcoal is edible, just doesn't cut it. I wish them well, but they need to pick up the service end of things.

Very yummy food, but it took forever to get it. We waited 30 minutes for oatmeal and an egg sandwich. It was a Monday morning, not very busy. We were starving...not a great way to start. Very expensive for breakfast at a casual spot. Oatmeal was $7 and breakfast sandwich was $9. Isn't this a small town? Where are the small town prices? Not sure if we will be back....maybe if we are not very hungry, don't mind waiting a while, and have a little extra money on hand.

The coffee cake here is so good I may never go back for fear of the 50 pounds I will gain. And fresh baked English muffins? Who does that? Good. Very very very good.

Reviews are accurate- you'll have to wait a while for your food but it is soooooo worth it!! To Die For French Toast is just that. Yummmmm. And they have the BEST soy chai in the area. Pancakes, eggs bene, breakfast burrito, turkey avo sando... All delish. Highly recommend.

Great baked goods made fresh, friendly owner on premises, great breakfast items but slow breakfast preparation on the day I was here (25-30 min). However there was no angst while waiting since I enjoyed a nice cappucino and coffeecake on the outdoor patio. Breakfasts, caffeinated drinks, and a shared coffee cake slice for two came to 28$.

Loved this place. It's a cute, small spot with mostly outdoor seating (dog friendly but keep in mind it's a pretty cozy patio) and you order inside at a counter from a pretty substantial menu. Everything tasted really fresh and my favorite by far was the Sunset Eggs Benedict ($14.95) with steak and mushrooms on top of homemade English muffins with poached eggs, homemade hollandaise, and served with some of the best potatoes I've ever had. The English muffins are moist and buttery, the steak perfectly cooked and juicy. Portions here are HUGE as evidenced not by my own breakfast but by all the other dishes I watched coming out of the kitchen. Breads are homemade and amazing. My boyfriend got a turkey, brie, spinach, tomato sandwich on homemade foccacia. While it didn't beat the benedict, he ate half and the other half made for a great leftover lunch.

This place has The BEST breakfast foods ever!!! My family went to Pismo to get away for the weekend and on out way back I Yelped for where is a good breakfast place, everyone rated Seaside Cafe to have really good food but horrible horrible management skills and a ridiculous wait time for your food. So I figured as long as the food was good how bad could the service be? Well it was like everyone said, the food took over an hour to get to us and the manager was some big scary looking guy who was rude, and gave off the "you people are inconveniencing me look." We took our order to go so when I asked for to go forks they where out and they don't have the syrup or ketchup packets either. The reason why I gave it four stars was the food is amazing, we had the original Eggs Benedict, these blueberry pancakes that instead of syrup they came with a glazed icing drizzled on top of it and we also had these pancakes that had peanut butter, chocolate and bananas on top. Everything looked very well put together and the tastes where so good I can't wait to go back next year even if it means dealing with the douche bag running the place.

If you like hearty, heavy meals cooked with lots of butter, then this is your place. But if you like a lighter meal, I suggest you move on. We ordered the American Omlette and French Toast. The omlette tasted more like butter than eggs and was too heavy in taste (and in calories). The French Toast was ok, but was probably prepared with not-so-fresh bread as the crust was hard. Service was good, ambiance was college-like by the beach. Overall an ok place, but considering our stomachs felt like we consumed bricks for hours after the meal, I don't think we'll be back.

WOW. Best Coffee Ever. From a certified coffee snob - this means something. Their blueberry pancakes are like nothing I've ever tasted. other breakfast Items are VERY good as well. They have hot breakfast like benedicts and scrambles and baked goods too. I had a pastrami sandwich there the other day - my first lunch experience @ seaside and it was delicious. the meat was SO flavorful and it was grilled with melted swiss and their secret sauce. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Stopped by on a Monday afternoon for lunch. Pros: food was very fresh and delicious. Shell burrito was probably the best breakfast burrito I've ever eaten. Cons: -Had to wait 25 minutes to receive the food, which is understandable considering the quality , but there were only two other groups there at the time so I imagine the wait time during busy periods would be unbearable. -Should be called roadside cafe as there is definitely no ocean in sight.

I love this place. We ordered the Banana Toffee Crunch Pancake and the Too Die For "French Toast." They were both delicious. I love the Banana Toffee Crunch Pancake and I'm not even a big fan of banana! Also, the portions were huge. I think we had enough food for 4 people.

I just went to this adorable place yesterday. I really liked the look of it and had heard great things. On that note, I had the french toast which was not fully cooked! The fruit on the plate was great though and our crab benedict was good as well. The staff was very friendly and I think I will go back soon to give it another shot. p.s. for the coffee lovers: illy vanilla nut is so good!

Went to this little place for breakfast. It was perhaps the best oatmeal I've ever had. It was full of fresh berries with a little brown sugar. Deedee, our server, was wonderful and gave me a hug with my oatmeal. Now that's customer service.

decided on a whim (and an unnecessary love for the movie clueless) to stop in pismo beach for breakfast after a wine weekend in paso robles. knowing nothing of the city (literally nothing: there was no pismo beach disaster to relieve?!) we exited the 101 assuming we'd find somewhere delicious without the help of yelp. and we did! enjoyed all of our dishes, i was a particular fan of my greek eggs benedict (very good hollandaise) and the breakfast sandwich was yummy. self-seating and service can be a drag, but on a busy sunday morning the timing worked out fine for us!

Incredible fruit salad and sandwiches, really don't think you could order anything unsavory here. Most of the folks working there were friendly, food was a little slow in coming (we were the only ones there) but the food quality made up for it. Will be back when we're in the area !

By far the best breakfast and coffee in SLO county!!! Definitely worth a visit. Each time I have had breakfast their my gf and I have been blown away. The Crab Eggs Benedict is amazing...served with homemade hollandaise sauce and on top of a homemade English muffin. The All American Scramble is awesome as well, it has all kinds of good veggies and gourmet sausage. The scrambled egg sandwich, Belgian waffles, strawberry-banana pancakes, are all great as well. Everything is great there but those are a few of our favorites. All the portions are huge and the ingredients are so fresh and flavorful.

About the best breakfast in the world! The homemade english muffins with the eggs benedict put our breakfast over the top. Pancakes yummy and fluffy and the quiche was like a tall lasagna. The outside seating with the mist and the warmers outside made it even better.

On a drive up the coast, I stopped here for a sandwich and a beverage to take with me to the beach where I sat at a picnic table overlooking the ocean on a beautiful day. There wasn't much of a wait, perhaps because I arrived in between the breakfast and lunch rushes. The sandwich was superb and they brewed a fresh cup of Mighty Leaf Iced tea for me. They also serve Graffeo and Illy coffee - the best. Highly recommend for good quality casual fare. If you also want to picnic (the beach is just down the street), I suggest you call an hour in advance (805-773-4360) so your food will be ready.

This is a tiny little place along the 101 frontage road on the way to Pismo that you'll almost certainly miss if you're not looking. I've visited Sea Side infrequently (2x a year or so during road trips) for the past 6 years, and am ALWAYS won by its charm and excellent espresso and straightup coffee. The owner Nada, and her son Tim, who appears to be taking the reigns a little more now, are absolutely darling. I never miss a chance to drop in every time I'm in the area or passing through.

A little pricey but very good. My daughter had the blueberry muffin and I had the vanilla Blackberry pancakes. They were delicious. I got a piece of some kind of buttery coffee cake to go and ate it later . It was so buttery and moist. I am craving it right now. I will definately go there on my next trip to Pismo.

I love this place! The food is excellent, and everything is homemade. I would eat here everyday if I could. Highly recommend the Peaches and Cream pancakes and Corned Beef Hash. The food is a little pricey, but it's well worth it - portions are large too. The guy who runs the place is super friendly.

So here's the deal....cute place, food looks like something out of a gourmet magazine...taste is so-so. It is very quaint, seating is limitied. Most of the seating is outside and even though they have heaters, you'll need your sweatshirt. For four people for breakfast, food alone was over $50. This is not the place you go to for a quick, cheap bite. I had the banana pancakes. The taste did not match the appearance of the food. It was way better than a chain restaurant, but in my opinion, not worth the price. It was good, just not amazing. We also had a belgium waffle and I must say, it was not good. Even with four of us to share from it, no one liked it enough to finish it. Food coming out of the kitchen is slow, but it's understandable for such a small place. I wanted to rate this place higher just because I love out of the way, mom and pop kind of places, but the food just wasn't great. I would go back again to give it another try, but would order something different. Also would have liked them to offer a basic egg/bacon/toast meal for the kids....

I couldn't even try the coffee or anything here due to them being closed. No signs and no staff while we waited for like 5+ minutes. Pretty disappointing. I definitely would like a sign or maybe updated hours on yelp if their business hours are going to change.

I came here on the recommendation of a friend as we drove down from Monterey. They must have gone years ago and I'm guessing the menu was different. It was not what we expected. Staff was nice but service was slow and food was not good. Everyone in our group thought it was a wasted chance to try a new place in a nice beach town. I am adding a second star because they were kind enough to appologize for the delay and comp my kids a hot chocolate. Hope this place can turn things around.

Stopped in for a late morning breakfast and was treated to an exceptionally good meal. I had the scrambled egg sandwich and it was incredibly delicious. The eggs Benedict were also outstanding. There is a fresh coffee bar with all the stand-bys: cappuccino, espresso, macchiato, latte... I had a macchiato the was excellent. The iced tea is also fresh and tasty. Nothing needed any extra salt, pepper, hot sauce... It was all perfectly flavored. The cooks trust their ingredients enough not to over-compensate with to much seasoning. The owner and cook are very friendly and humble. Everyone was friendly and attentive. I HIGHLY recommend this place. You will not be disappointed!

The eggs Benedict was super dry and I didn't know it was possible to make dry eggs Benedict but it was. The bread was dry. Also comes with house potatoes, they potatoes were slimy. This is probably the worst Benedict I have ever had. The chef comes out as I'm picking at it and says "how is the crab Benedict? It's good right" I was like no not at all and he didn't even bother to hear that lol. He just walked off. I was really disturbed about the slimy potatoes. Didn't know what that was about, I didn't touch that. Sure the eggs were huge because the use two huge slices of white bread, but it was dry bread, the crab was bland and the hollandaise sauce wasn't anything to cheer about. I would rather have quality food than quantity. The people seemed nice, but then again I don't know about them either. Got a wierd vibe from them and my intuition is right for the most part. All and all I won't ever be back there when I'm in pismo.

I can't believe this place is still open. Literally. The last three times I've tried to go it's been closed despite their hours posted online. Once it sort of looked open but a rude worker told us they were closed even though it was 12pm, then proceeded to grab a hug slice of cake and eat it. I used to adore this place. I've had the best blueberry pancakes there. They really had such great food but everything seems to be going downhill fast. The customer service was never, ever good but you could put up with that fact as long as you got your food and it was amazing. Now I'm not even sure when or if they are open. I'm hoping they start to care about their business a little more!

We were excited to try this place because it was recommended in a Sunset Magazine road trip book and they had a lot of nice things to say about the place. Seaside Cafe has the potential to be five stars but unfortunately our experience did not go well. Here is a list is what went down: Everything the book recommended to order they were out of. They wouldn't honor the 15% off a drink promo they had on yelp when you check in. It's only what 30 cents or something but then don't have the promo! The blueberry pancakes we ordered came out burnt. They did have a good amount of blueberries on there. Sigh, so much potential. They were out of sweet potato for the goddess burrito so we settled for regular potatoes. The burrito was good but couldn't save the rest of the experience. The heaters didn't work and it was a very chilly morning so we had to sit inside where the music was super loud. They couldn't figure out how to turn it down so they just turned it off. On a positive note- they are dog friendly.

I have been to this place a couple of times with the same experience. When I walked in, greeted by a very friendly gal. Very helpful and kind, then she either gets a phone call or on her pad and the guy comes to help. Ordered an ice coffee, he fills a cup with ice, pulls a brown jug from frig pours it in cup and there you go. No cream no sugar, doesn't even bother to ask if I need it. Um, okay! Also ordered a coffee and and my friend got red velvet cake, both were extremely dry. Needless to say, it was a classic fail!

When I moved here 7 years ago from Chicago I was so excited to discover this adorable beach cafe with good, fresh food and great coffee--unfortunately I've never had a great experience here. Not once. I continued to go, thinking it would get better, the food and coffee were good, but service always missed the mark. I tried to love this place, but I'm done trying. I don't think elaborate explanations about "why" would matter, so I share this review for those passing through town looking at the pictures and expecting something much better than what they will surely experience. Other options? Depending on what you want, I love Eclair's Bakery (strictly a bakery, but awesome!) or Comfort Market (great food! but iffy service) both in Arroyo Grande. A lot of friends like Lido for brunch, but I'm not crazy about their dinners and haven't gone for brunch. Or go to SLO for Sidecar or Granada--always great!

This is more a 2.5 than an actual 2, but I always round down. The stars can be deceptive otherwise. I had high hopes for this place. It has great reviews on line and the pictures look great. The prices are definitely high for a simple breakfast/brunch place where you order at the counter, find a table (in a small place) and wait for the food to come out. The disappointment was the chicken and waffles and that really set the tone. Being told that the chicken and waffles are "phenomenal" it was an utter let down. First it took about 30 minutes for the food to come out, okay, fine. But when the food arrives and it's not chicken and waffles but chicken and "pancakes," ick it's disgusting. Waffles and pancakes are not synonymous. The pancakes were thick and not airy. Too sweet. Doused in maple syrup. The chicken was one measly piece of fried chicken breast. That's it. Not even a whole breast. A partial breast. It was dry. The crust was not good. It would have been helpful to be told in advance, even after the food was ordered that the waffle maker was broken. You don't just do a substitution without advising a guest, especially when it's a material part of the plate, come on! Chicken and WAFFLES, not chicken and pancakes! Expressing disappointment to the staff/owner, all he could say was "if you decide to come back next time, your meal is on me." Thanks. How about you just comp what we ordered but wasn't served. I'm not returning ever.

Tim is the man. Very welcoming. Music is awesome. He served the best cup of coffee I have had in my life to date. Previously it was in a small hippie town near Boulder, Co in 2007. Food is legit. Seriously so good. Support good people. And eat well.

I had been here once before when visiting Pismo, our first experience was great...which is why we returned. We walked up and saw the large sign in the window saying that their liquor license was suspended...should have been my first clue to run away, no mimosas for me=(. The menu had been chopped in half from what is on the board. Not much of a selection at all. The wait was long and the food was blah. Needless to say I will not be returning, there was a place one block away that was packed. I should have known by the fact that no one was here...there was a reason.

My boyfriend and I stopped into this place before leaving for Northern California. Because of the high ratings on yelp, we knew this had to be the place to end our anniversary trip! From first impressions, this place is quaint! Like two tables inside quaint! The rest of the seating is outside under umbrellas and because it was a nice morning, we didn't mind sitting out there. The service was good and so was their beer selection (it was a little early, so we passed on the beer)! The menu was intriguing and did not disappoint! I had the lemon coconut pancakes and my boyfriend had the pulled pork. My pancakes were absolutely delicious and because of the gigantic portion size, I ate it at several different sittings! (The pancakes were quite sweet, but I didn't mind because I love sweets!) My boyfriend's pulled pork portion was messy and large enough for him to take home leftovers! Overall, I was impressed with this place and it lived up to their yelp reviews!

Reading back on the latest reviews I should have known better. A change of plans had me look up my book marks in the area. From the Yelp pictures this place looked promising so I decided to give it a shot. As we got there the place looked nice, small with tables outside. We tried ordering from the menu on the wall but the cashier/cook/waiter told us that it was not the real menu and gave us a laminated one. We ordered a Shell Burro - house potatoes, bacon, cheese, beans, scrambled eggs wrapped in a tortilla smothered in chili verde $10.95 All American - bacon, tomatoes, onions, spinach all scrambled with cheese and egg served with house potatoes $12.95 Large Orange Juice $4.50 Total $30.88 After 10 minutes waiting outside, we hear people arguing from the kitchen which is 10 feet away from where we were sitting. 5 minutes later a women finally leaves from inside whom looked like the cook at the time. At this point my wife recommends getting a refund and leaving but because I paid with a credit card I didn't want to go through the hassle. Plus, I still thought the food would be good and we were hungry. After nearly 30 minutes of waiting we finally get our food. Disappointed to say the least, considering what we paid it was a small amount. It all looked sloppy, my burro had a little bit of everything with a very plain taste, pretty much wrapped in a large somewhat warm tortilla with green salsa that tasted like a store bought can and poured on top. The All American was no different, plain taste and really greasy. The orange juice was the only decent thing we enjoyed but the so called large drink was more like a medium. I'm sure you can assume what the overall experience was, so I won't bother. I'd highly recommend saving your time, money and go somewhere else.

Gingerbread latte with homemade gingerbread caramel whip cream is delicious--actually was beyond delicious. The regular non-fat latte is made with great espresso beans from Stumptown coffee and was well rounded. Now on to breakfast. French toast, homemade sweet bread, topped with bananas, citrus purée and icing (yes, icing). Mouthwatering, eye popping, and nose flattering. First bite and you are hooked! By the time you think of sharing a bite it is almost gone. Yes, it is sweet but not too sweet. Bacon blue cheese scramble with spinach = yum! Add the crispy, expertly spiced potatoes with skins still on provided for the perfect savory breakfast. Paired with the gingerbread latte with homemade whip cream equaled happiness. Everything is made with the love of a true foodie and a chef not afraid to take his visitors on a food journey. We are already planning our return visit on our next trip up the coast.

3 stars and here's why... Ordered breakfast with friends and it took FOR EVER! I know good food takes a little time but geez. I appreciated when they corrected their mistake. I ordered an iced tea and instead got an iced cappuccino. The guy said " keep it I'll make you the tea." So that was nice. But back to the long wait (45 min) and there were only a couple of tables with customers. The interesting conversation I heard was a waitress talking to friends about her recent DUI she got for smoking weed and driving.... And laughing about it.... Very sad. Luckily we were just hungry and not in a hurry. Yes I would go back because the food was good but I will make sure I have plenty of time.

The cute local coffee shop of Pismo Beach!! Excellent customer service from these lovely ladies!Heading out of town and they are one of the few coffee shops open on Easter... Took a chance and love it! Has a relaxed local coffee shop feel. The breakfast burrito was delicious! We also got the snickers latte and an almond milk latte! It's not often I find the almond milk at coffee shops and they steamed it to perfection! Locals were playing cards and battleship... When I am in this area again I will come back to this coffee shop! Take a chance and fall in love with them!

This is my first post ever on yelp. I signed up because of how much I felt the need to warn people of this cluster cafe. I've lived in the area for 3 years now and every time i try to give this place another shot, I'm disappointed. This time really took the cake. Of the three of us that came to eat here this morning, Only 2 of us received our food. We all ordered at the same time even though I was 10 minutes behind my guest because the cook hadn't even arrived to work yet. We all ordered and sat down. 20 minutes later my food arrives, plus some extras that I hadn't ordered. I would say this is kind, but when ordering I discussed with the waitress how I didn't want all the extras. My friends chicken and waffles meal was not totally cooked throughout. Very nasty and turned all of us a little green looking at it. We prayed she didn't eat to much of the uncooked portion. My other guest wasn't told until I had already gotten my food that they were out of blueberries for his pancakes and only had bananas. He went with bananas as that was his only choice and then we watched a cook walk over to the store to buy bananas. I was done eating, My other friend was done eating and still no banana pancakes AND trust me, we ate slow. Eventually we decided to tell them to put his meal in a ToGo box, they said the food was ready, so we waited. 3 more minutes passed and then the counter girl came out to tell us it would be another 5 minutes. We left and got his money back. The service, management and food all need work. Lots of other great choices in the area. I suggest everyone look elsewhere.

Wow. A lot of the reviews Ive read on here have said that this place is hit or miss. I must have really, really missed. (NOTE: Went to Honeymoon Cafe on Saturday morning and it was delicious. I highly recommend going there if you're looking for a good bfast/brunch place!) I was in town for the weekend having planned a surprise birthday weekend for my fiancee. I wanted to take her out to brunch (because brunch is our favorite) so we ended up at this place. We were the only people there as it was relatively early on a Sunday, and a few people stopped in to get things to go while we were eating, but otherwise it was just us. I will preface this review by saying that I am not that picky when it comes to breakfast food. And I understand that sometimes things don't turn out well. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been disappointed enough in my food that I've wanted to say something. However, when 3 of the 4 things I order are inedible, I think it's worth writing a review about. I have to say, reading other reviews people have mentioned waiting a long time for food. We didn't really experience that. I think it took maybe 20 minutes or so for our food to come out? Not too bad, but again we were the only people there. My fiancee and I ordered: french toast blueberry pancakes soy latte english muffin side of scrambled eggs I'll break it down piece by piece. SOY LATTE: This was the first thing I ordered. Something was actually wrong with it. A soy latte is espresso and steamed soy milk, right? Well I'm almost 100% sure that the base of my drink was coffee, not espresso. If it was espresso, it had a strange flat kind of taste, not at all normal. Then, either regular milk was used (which I don't drink often so I'm not sure if thats what I was tasting) or soy milk that had gone bad. I had two sips, then had my fiancee try in case my taste buds were a little off. She took a sip and made the same face I had and said exactly what I was thinking. Since this was the first thing I ordered and the woman who took our orders was really nice, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it so I just set it aside. BLUEBERRY PANCAKES: These were NOT pancakes! I have no idea what I was eating. They were very, very dense (not at all light & fluffy like pancakes should be) and intensely sweet, almost like a dense cake. I'm not sure how they were cooked, if too much oil/butter was used or what, but they were crispy and oily on the outside, as if they had been fried. And then, after all that, they were drenched in sickly sweet icing. That last part was my own fault, I saw that they had icing on them on the menu and didn't ask for them without. But at the same time, I can't imagine anyone eating anything that sweet! Maybe if the pancake had been a normal pancake and not super sweet on its own. I don't know. Regardless, I had a few bites and then elected to just pick out and eat the blueberries on their own. ENGLISH MUFFIN: Okay, I'm going to break up my frustration with the rest of my menu items by raving about the english muffins here for just a sec. Holy shit. They are homemade and ridiculously effing delicious. Super huge and thick and english muffin-y. They earn the one star I gave this place all on their own. I can't completely hate this place because of this insanely delicious part of my breakfast. Easily the best english muffin I have ever had, and probably will ever have. BUT that doesn't make up for the rest of my food being inedible. SCRAMBLED EGGS: Again, something was pretty wrong here. I think the eggs may have been old or spoiled or something. The eggs were very rubbery and had a strange smell to them that I noticed as soon as the plate was brought over. They were slightly grayish (I took a picture but you can't tell very well, wish I had normal scrambled eggs to compare them to) and tasted AWFUL. Like something was really wrong with them. At this point I was thinking something HAD to be wrong with my taste buds and we had ordered the eggs to share, so I had my fiancee try them. She tried them and made a weird face. Enough said. The french toast was my fiancee's alone and she said the exact same thing about the icing, but she scraped it off and the french toast I guess was all right on its own. After all this, when the woman who took our orders asked how our food was I replied "umm... it was all right." I had expected her to ask what had been wrong with it but she just turned around and kept doing whatever it was she had been doing behind the counter. Okay... Again, I am not very picky. I like to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, and usually do if I have something I don't love. But so many things were wrong here and we paid a decent amount of money for this brunch (around $36 I think) and I had wanted to take my fiancee out for her bday weekend... I just left really frustrated and stewed over it for our long drive home.

This place has so much potential. Supper cute set up. Foods really pretty good and the coffee is excellent. The staff could be friendlier. And the food could be faster to make it out of the kitchen. Overall if you don't care about service and have lots of time to enjoy the outdoor patio this place is for you.

" Not fit to serve food of any kind" Before going on a long needed vacation I Yelped for a good breakfast spot close to where my wife and I and friends were going to camp for the week of 5-26-15 through 06-02-15 in Pismo beach. I came across what I thought would be a great spot to treat my buddy to an early morning breakfast. "WRONG"! Seaside Cafe & Bakery where do I start. Ironically Andrew Z. that recently has become a Yelper was three tables away from my friend and I and as you can see from his review it wasn't a good morning for this establishment to say the least. First off it was about 52 degrees this past Sunday morning and would really would have preferred to sit inside unfortunate this place only has four extremely small two person tables which two of the tables are located where the coffee menu is located and the other were around a corner that had some guy (that looked like he didn't belong there) and the other table had a lonely backpack so it appeared no available indoor seating was available. You are required to go up to the register and handed a menu, order and pay for you food. Once we did this we knew we were stuck. We both ordered the traditional eggs Benedict which on yelp I thought came with either an English muffin or a homemade English muffin. We sat outside where the tables are nasty with old food particles you wouldn't dare rest your arms on them...Gross. They have several patio heaters that nobody offered to turn on. We would have turned the heaters on but they were shoved up against the umbrellas and were afraid we would burn the place down. We sat for every bit of forty minutes witnessing Andrew Z. bad situation. Food arrives first comment out of my buddy's mouth " the potatoes are cold ". The eggs Benedict were made with a croissant NOT AN ENGLISH MUFFIN. The only thing I thought was tasty was the ham they used very thick and favorable. Another note where I was sitting I saw they have a five gallon plastic jug that some one had drilled a hole into and put a spout on for drinking water and lastly I could see into the kitchen through a large window that was open and they had dish items and such that appeared dirty and most were on their side. RUN DON'T WALK...

Went today, had a coupon from Central Coast Deal .com and apparently the website has gone out of business and even though the coupon never expires and Seaside Cafe and Bakery had already gotten their benefit from the company they choose not to honor the coupon. Really bad thing to do to a local and someone who can tell everyone they know not to spend any money at Seaside, good luck surviving in the off season when you treat the locals so bad.

Ok, update to when I was last here. Geeeezzzz this place went down hill fast. Ordered same as last year, corned beef n hash. Portion size was half and it was not corned beef, it was stringy, terrible, no flavor beef. My girls chicken and Waffles was just as horrendous. Service is even slower than last time we ate here. Apparently the owner has thrown in the towel and doesn't care about this place. Property owner, please find a new tenant that cares. Stay away at all cost.

TIMING: Stopped for breakfast on the Tuesday morning. Was not too busy and owner had plenty of time to tend to our orders! Took a bit of time, but I felt it was worth the home-style wait. COFFEE: Stumptown coffee! Delicious. Having just come from an extended few months in Portland - it was a nice sight to see. Great flavors and several non-dairy choices for creamers. FOOD: Got a breakfast burrito and it was like a punch of flavors in the mouth. Owner even came by to ask us how everything was. Super nice guy. I would say the burrito was a notable find. Just spicy enough not to mask the great flavors in the wrap. RECOMMEND: Looking at some reviews about being "hit or miss" - I would come not on a Saturday or Sunday morning when it might be too packed. Get good and careful attention - well worth the cost and time.

Cute lil place. Think there are 2 chairs inside and the rest is patio seating only. Not a lot of seating at all. Got there around 845am on a Saturday (plenty of seating right at this time, but once 9am hit - no seating, with tons of people standing around waiting for people to leave), got a special from the board, strawberry shortcake pancakes ($12.95) and an orange mimosa ($6.95). With tax my total was just under $22.... The pancakes were cooked perfectly, very sweet glaze on top, and the strawberries were great! Nice portion (3 cakes), def couldn't finish but half. I don't normally complain about price but I found $13 for pancakes kinda high lol. The mimosa being $7 was normal, but the size wasn't normal! It was served in a mason jar, so it was huge! Best deal ever haha. All in all, the quality of the food was top notch. I'd go again, just be prepared to shell out da monies and roll out of bed early.

It pains me to write a bad review for this place. The first time I went here I got an AMAZING eggs Benedict. I encouraged friends to go here, and was eager to come back. The second time, the plate was not as good, but I figured that maybe the kitchen was slammed and that explained the poorer quality. This most recent visit I have lost respect for this place. To pay 17 dollars for a crab benedict, wait almost 40 minutes for it, and then receive a meal that contained essentially a stale croissant, cold crab meat and a overly runny egg was a gross disappointment. I will not be back.

Seaside cafe is a fun place with outdoor dining and great food. It is pet friendly and sometimes during summer they have live music on the weekends. They have fresh baked goodies. Are open for breakfast and lunch. ingredients are fresh and local. Today I'm having a Chile Verde burrito. Two Yum's Up!

My husband and I went here for a fun breakfast out. Coffee and espresso drinks are excellent! Menu has lots of fun breakfast and brunch items on it. I got the blueberry pancakes and the hubby got the corned beef hash. The food took about 30 min to arrive after ordering. The food was delicious, but my husband had 2 long hairs in his. The management was cool about it and gave us a refund for his meal. Hardly any indoor seating, so we sat outside. Very cute outdoor seating, but kinda chilly in the morning. There were patio heaters, but they weren't on. The server offered to turn them on when we were already halfway through the meal.

5 stars for excellent food! Quaint place, definitely busy on a typical weekend morning so be patient as I said, it's quaint and they don't have much staff. We've been there twice. First time it was a Sunday, busy, took forever to get food but once it came, it was amazing! the pancakes (more like cake) are to die for. Great latte, just wish it came out when we ordered instead of with the food (guess I could've asked but they were backed up). Went again on a Monday and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Quiet, quick, tasty...I got the breakfast burrito (best I've ever had), my husband got the egg sandwich (yum) and for dessert, the pancakes again of course :) We'll be back! Oh ya, great coffee again - bummed they were out of the pumpkin lattes tho. Fourth, maybe 5th...losing count, time back! Reminder to everyone they aren't typical pancakes and they are sweet but amazing! We get them for dessert and start with the breakfast burrito for the main entree...always slightly different but delicious!

I have been cooking all my life and recently finished culinary school. I only give Seaside 2 stars because while the food is somewhat decent, it's way overpriced for what it is ($11.95 for two blueberry pancakes that were tasty, but way too sweet; $10 for a scrambled egg breakfast sandwich that was about what you'd expect, but the eggs were not actually scrambled and it was sloppily arranged and dry). The service is slow, and I was told the chef doesn't "do" substitutions (a chef myself, I consider this to be an arrogant attitude). Perhaps my biggest qualm with Seaside is that they have NO KIDS MENU (for a casual, beach environment with solely outdoor seating, I think this is ridiculous)! The person taking our order assured us that their portions were huge and our son would be able to share pancakes with my husband, so we ordered pancakes and a $3 side of eggs. But we were sorely disappointed when two slightly larger than average pancakes arrived with a tiny portion of barely scrambled eggs. Needless to say, for $30, we left a little disappointed and still slightly hungry.

I really wanted to like this place but waiting 45 mins for 2 sandwiches, especially without an apology or explanation is unacceptable. After reading other reviews, it sounds like this is pretty typical...how about hire more staff so that your customers don't have to wait an absurd amount of time...you charge enough for the food to be able to do so! I gave 2 stars because the food was actually really good but it's too bad that I had such a bad first experience. The place is also in need of a deep cleaning - spills and dust everywhere. I will NOT be back.

I tried to like this cute little cafe but it didn't meet even the low expectations I had. The food actually wasn't terrible but the proprietors seemed not to care all that much, which was a little off putting. I regret not going further into downtown to seek out better breakfast spots for there surely must be nicer spots than this for a good breakfast by the beach.

Great staff, fun setting, amazing home style breakfast with a sophisticated flavor profile. We recommend the huevos rancheros. Will be back for those 64oz mimosa growlers!

This place is a total nightmare. I used to go pretty regularly, but stopped about 2 years ago after consistently rude, slow service. I decided to give them another try this weekend since I was in the neighborhood and it was still early on a Saturday morning, thus I thought it may not be busy and I could *maybe* get my food within a reasonable timeframe. WRONG! I ordered without incident and found a seat on the patio. There were only two other parties that had ordered before me, both of whom received their food within 10-15 minutes... I was trying to be patient, I really was - I know this is not fast food. But when two parties that ordered AFTER me received their food, I finally asked the girl to please check on my order. She came back out after a few minutes and said that my order would be right up... another 15 minutes goes by - no food and no explanation. By this time it has been 50 minutes and I am throwing in the towel. I went back inside, asked for a refund, and received a mumbled, half-ass apology about them training new people. But no other explanation or indication that my order had ever even been started. My fault for giving them another chance. If you have at least an hour to wait for your breakfast - by all means, check this place out. I hope you have better luck than I did.

Food is good. No toilet paper, seat cover or paper towels. When told girl replied the guy that does that comes tomorrow. Guess employees don't use toilet paper. Cleanliness not there specialty.

Saturday morning not very busy. Service was attentive and fast. They serve illy coffee so that is always good. We ordered the fresh fruit, breakfast burrito special, the hangover scrambler and the maple bacon waffles. All of then were amazing. No complaints at all except for the size, we felt guilty not being able to eat it all. The burrito was the size of your head. The salsa was great and very flavorful with a low dull heat. Also the chorizo component was a nice addition. The hangover scrambler was amazing and exactly what I would expect if I was to actually have a hangover. Cheesy, hearty and it hit the spot. Lots of flavor and even tho it was so large I tried my best to eat it all. Lastly the maple bacon waffle. The flavor combination was well executed. The waffle itself was not soggy and held up to the ingredients it was paired with. A perfect combination of sweet and savory. Would definitely go back again when in pismo beach, would just be prepared to eat a lot of split the meals.

Delicious Illy coffee! Cute place. Savory, delicious food. My fear is this place will never be what it could be since they open or start serving food when it suits them. I believe posted hours should tell your customers what to expect but, hey, I am perhaps not as layed back as I should be. If I lived here, I would just learn to not count on them too early.

Yummy garden goddess burrito, but I can't handle the extra long wait everytime I come here, not only for food but for a cup of tea and a single shot of espresso, by the time I received my shot I was sure it had been expired because it took so long to get to me. Plus four stars for the burrito, minus two becuase the wait time and lack in friendly customer service.

Illy coffee was great, but food was inedible. Had the quiche and it was like they dumped a jar of salt in it and my husband had a scramble which he said he could have made better. Fresh fruit cup was just fruit, absolutely NOT fresh. Should have gone to Zorro's as recommended by our bell guy.

I don't understand why this place has such high reviews. Yes the food is very good but it's not worth the extremely poor customer service, the 1-1.5 hour wait and receiving a dish that is not what you ordered. This place needs some serious customer service training. 2 stars is being extremely nice.

Man I'm pretty disappointed. I really hope the owner reads this. I was in there today Oct.21. This place truly is in need of consistency. It is just like a box of chocolates you never know what you are gonna get. Today I got the Benedict. The sauce was visible and texturally chunky and bland. The potatoes were one potato sliced into four thick undercooked chunks( hard on the outside and soft in the middle). I still can't get the nasty thick taste from eating there out of my month. Please tell your cooks: have consistency by this I mean that every time you make a dish it she have the same ingredients, cut, cook EVERYTime. Maybe take a picture of each dish and write down the ingredients next to it and post it near the plating area? For example your hash usually has purple cabbage in it and today it was forgotten, or if your out let costumers know while they order. On that note also one time I went there and got the side of fruit(which is really a giant bowl) ... It's got to be fresh. You guys gotta make it daily. When you let it sit over night and use it the next day(s) you can see that it has lost its integrity and becomes LIMP and SoGGY. On to the coffee station. Ok, so CLEAN And restock your Cups daily or more.EVERYTiME they are dusty and Visibly stained! just look at them, even after someone ask you to clean it. Please keep the coffee containers somewhat full. Today only Vanilla Nut was full and the creamer empty. I so wanted to support you guys.I'm a local but we will never go again. I today my self this last time and thought maybe it was just the dish I got( the bread ratio to food on ALL there dishes is WAY Off). We pick to eat out at one place once a week. I feel that we wasted our money and I feel sick. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Worst restaurant EVER!!!! No one was there but it took 1 1/2 hrs to get our food !! The huevos rancheros were AWFUL!!! Super spicy!!! A stack of potatoes, chili beans, tortilla, chili beans, tortilla, chili beans, eggs, cheese, and chipotle sauce. We will NEVER go there again

This is my absolute favorite breakfast in the entire slo region! The owner is always here and he is always on top if things and is super nice. Everything is high quality ingredients- made from scratch. So, yes- sometimes it takes awhile. But good, quality food takes some time people! Calm down, have some delicious coffee, and talk to your loved ones while you wait. The boyfriend says the huevos rancheros is the best he has EVER had! I like the 2 egg combo (get jelly for the toast- BOMB!), or the waffle or French toast. The French toast is super sweet but seriously out of this world! The oatmeal is pretty legit too.

Service was absolutely awful. Man that served me had a chip on his shoulder while my party and I ordered. I asked him for a napkin and he sent me to the sugar station, I told him there were none left and he said "wait a minute and I'll get you napkins", and wait I did, while he made a latte. For three minutes I waited for napkins until I found some on an outside table. That my friends is bad service.

Let me just start out by saying the food here is delicious. There are just a few things that would make the overall experience better besides lowering the prices. The sandwiches are generous but come in a hard to eat out of basket and need to be cut in half before they are brought out because silverware is not automatically provided. The fries that come with the "fork and knife" sandwiches are partially sweet potato and partially regular potato. Something you should know if you aren't a fan of sweet potato fries. The bag of fries also had only about six fries in it so don't plan on sharing those. The water is in a jug on the outside of the cafe and tastes like the plastic it's kept in. There are no sodas and also no ice. On a positive note, the outside eating area is nice and they did have heaters going. The staff was also very nice and accommodating.

YUM!! The food here is delicious!! Last time I was here I got the chicken and waffles and my bf got the eggs benedict. The fried chicken was the best I have ever had, super crunchy crust and so moist in the inside. I love the homey ambiance and the outdoor seating is super nice. The owners are super sweet and really care about their business which is producing great quality food. To all the reviewers who are not from the area and complain about the time obviously don't know how it is to live in SLO...relax, sit back and enjoy the moment. If you want fast food go to McDonalds!

This is hands down the best breakfast in San Luis Obispo county. Are you going to get impeccable service? No. Will you have to wait for a table? Most likely. Will you have to wait to get your food? Yes. Is this good for big groups? Definitely not. But it is an amazing family-owned hole-in-the-wall and they make THE BEST food. I've been there mostly for brunch-- the Garden Goddess Breakfast Burrito and the Chunky Monkey Pancakes are to. die. for. Great coffee drinks, and pastry selection. I'd probably order a pastry if the display didn't make them look like they would go straight to my love handles. Most of the negative reviews on here are about the service/not being able to sit anywhere-- to those people I say this is NOT a fine dining experience. This is a mom and pop cafe in a sleepy beach town, not a fancy brunch place in a big city. You are treated well by the staff, they are friendly, and it has incredible food. You have to take this place at face value. Seaside-- I will be back again soon!!

Tracked this place down after seeing our friends with their awesome sandwiches. Son 1 got gourmet blt which he said was delicious. Son 2 got the roast turkey and Brie and said it might be the best sandwich he ever had: 10 out of ten. Bread fresh and lightly toasted; turkey was roasted and sliced and generous, as were the sauce and Brie. Only slight negative: the cost. $13 sandwichesfor takeout adds up fast.

We want so much to love this place. Great location near our home, nice outdoor seating, and a menu that should be fantastic, including specialty breakfast pancakes, baked goods, illy coffee, frittatas... So what's not to like? Two things: the service and the food. The service, though usually with a smile, is devastatingly slow and uneven. It's typical for our experience that plates will all come out at different times for each of our party, and the coffee drinks usually arrive after we've eaten. The food, though great concept, is poor execution. Today's thick cut bacon arrived drowning in a pool of grease. I mean, I like my fatty foods better than most but I literally had to blot the bacon with four napkins just to attempt eating it. My mother in law's tater tots with cheddar and bacon seemed to be missing the bacon and were bland. My bf's potatoes weren't even cooked thru. And this meal was typical of our last few attempts to stay loyal. Bottom line? After giving Tim multiple shots at providing a good meal, we are sadly saying goodbye to this place.

Use to be a favorite place but......I was there a day when the owner ordered the staff to make him a drink while there was a huge line he just sat - but dont get me wrong food is still good - the three stars are for the cook - "H" she is the one I normally see. Regular Barista "d" is no longer there miss her- great service always smiling. I like that salads are available real early in the AM so you can pick up lunch early.

We have been coming to the Pismo/Shell Beach area for years, and the Seaside Cafe and Bakery has always been our go-to place for breakfast. We have always enjoyed the ambiance and the food. It has been about two years since our last visit, and things have changed. The first thing we noticed was the re-do of the outside eating area. Much more open and refreshing. Very nice. The second thing we noticed was only one person manning the ship. Uh-oh. The third thing we noticed was that we were the only customers. Uh-ho, uh-oh. In the past, the place was usually packed. We placed our order, a scrambled egg sandwich, hold the tomato for me. For the hubbie, the All American Scramble. We poured our coffee and went outside to wait. And wait. And wait. While we were waiting, only two customer came in for take-out coffee. Since only one person was manning the ship, we continued to wait. FINALLY, our food arrived. Hubbie's scramble was greasy. I turned my plate around after it was deposited in front of me, and my fingers that were holding the plate under the rim came out covered with grease. The scrambled egg sandwich-hold the tomato-came with . . . . . . . tomato. (By the way, on the menu it was tomatoe.) Picking up the sandwich, my other fingers came out greasy. The peels of my potatoes that came as a side on both our plates tasted like fish. Maybe just my taster early in the day. Benefit of the doubt here. After our food was delivered, we had to wait for silverware and napkins, and for our OJ to be served. Presentation of the food was non-appealing. Food was just slapped on the plate. We have loved their pastries in the past, and the cinnamon rolls were calling my name. I entered, and the one-and-only was in the kitchen intently texting. The devil overcame me and I decided to just wait and see how long it took him to notice me. I got my cinnamon roll to go, and we returned to our hotel to make fresh coffee and share the roll. Uh-oh. Dry roll. MAYBE it was made yesterday - - MAYBE - - but it certainly was not today's. Perhaps the cafe is just going though temporary trials and tribulations, but our experience today certainly did not meet their usual standards. We will probably peak in on our next visit to the area and see if it has improved. It certainly needs improvement. For now, only one star. And that's generous. Sadly.

Walked in turned around and walked out. It was so dark inside that the only thing I could see is the windows in the door, so I left. If you can't see the counter person or the menus or the walls or the floor then it's to dark. Turn on the lights. If your food is good then don't hide it in darkness, unless you are ashamed of it.

Good coffee and cool atmosphere can't save the mediocre overpriced food. My girlfriend ordered the Green Goddess Burrito which wasn't bad, it had lots of fresh spinach. I ordered the Monte Cristo was a BIG FAIL. This was inaccurately described in the menu as a French toast sandwich with jalapeño jam, ham, Swiss cheese, and a light dusting of powdered sugar. However, it was a complete sugar overload. The French toast was coated in blueberry syrup, a sugar glaze, and topped with a copious amount of whipped cream. It was totally inedible. After talking with the waitress, she informed us that they changed the recipe and didn't want to update the menu. She was very apologetic and agreed that the dish is poorly represented. They refunded the price for the sandwich.

Started off with an ILL(y) coffee and strawberry cheesecake muffin...if it had ended there, boom 5 stars would've been administered and the game would've been over. Tupac Shakur once said, "'If you can't find somethin' to live for, you best find somethin' to die for." Well 2pac had come by Seaside Cafe, he would find their homemade muffins to be that something. The strawberry cheesecake muffin is moist (no it doesn't bother me if you find that word irritating) and will induce a pre-meal coma that will make it difficult to initiate operation breakfast. The coffee/muffin combo gets 5 stars and without a doubt should you make a detour to stop here and have a taste. As for the breakfast, the portions were humongous. A Samoan Sumo would have found these plates preposterous. The issue wasn't the quantity of food, rather the quality. I ended up getting an omelette (The Hangover I think) with tomatoes, jalepenos, olives and a little bit more that I forget....sorry for the lack of details, there is only one omlette with jalepenos and that's the one I'm talking about. The omlette itself is extremely watered up. Nothing like a pile of eggs that come in a puddle of egg drool. The potatoes that come on the side are what I ended up eating the most, I just couldn't get up to dance with the main meal. The jalpenos simply overwhelmed any actual flavor the eggs had and for that reason I left disappointed. This place is definitely worth going back if not only for the muffin and coffee. I will be giving this place another try... just with another entree.

Great place to stop for breakfast! This is definitely one of the best scrambles I have ever had for breakfast!!! Amazing! Delicious!!! Eggs, jalapeños, spinach, onion, and tomatoes. I got it with a sweet potato mash...yum, Yum, YUM!! They have a quaint patio area where you can feel the ocean breeze. Don't worry about getting cold...they have plenty of heaters to keep you warm. In the back ground, jazz music is playing. Relaxing! Time flies as you sit, relax and nourish. Foodies must stop! Oh, they serve Illy coffee, too!!

The food is excellent. We had the huevos rancheros which was delicious. We also had the fried chicken and waffles We had fruit salad which was fresh and delicious. Looking at the other diners food that was coming out looked fantastic and everybody seemed to enjoy it. I will definitely be coming back. The only issue is ordering is done at the cash register. You find your table and they bring the food out to you.

First time I went I got something to GO and still had terrible service. Not a warm & friendly environment like many other Central Coast finds. The food was disappointing in many ways. Never went back. My boyfriend just went today. Took a half hour to make his one sandwich. Gave him about 4 French fries and he found an egg SHELL and HAIR in his sandwich. There were several tomatoes which he said he didn't want any of. Didn't even finish it. I know it's in Shell Beach, but we didn't expect shells in the food. Would not go back or recommend. Left a bad taste in both our mouthes! Unfortunate.

Oh my gosh!!!! This "Hangover Scramble" was AMAZING! I love the mixture of beans, eggs & jalepenos, I must mention the potatoes were fried with a crust along the edge of them. I could just eat a plate of those. Delicious !

Woke up at the Shell Beach Inn and walked down the street to the Seaside Cafe.. And so glad that we did! We ordered at the front and then sat down. My double espresso was one of the best and the guy that took our order and made it was really nice. Our food came out shortly after our drinks... And It all sure looked spectacular! Fresh and appealing. My everything bagel was the most flavorful everything ever. I added some red onion and ripe tomatoes on top. Just the way I like it! Thanks Seaside.. I will be coming back and telling my friends also!

I declare: Forget the Ritz-Carlton! & get the amazingly stellar Eggs Benedict at Seaside! One bite of this handmade homemade humungous dish will make your tastebuds tingle & sing, like they were hit by an ionized radioactive nucleotide! The friendly local hands-on humble owner here uses the best homemade ingredients, he did proudly confide! Ingredients include: fresh great slabs of spiral smoked bone-in ham, huge soft poached eggs, amazingly generous gobs of homemade savory Hollandaise sauce, freshly in-house baked enormous puffy muffins, with tons of sliced savory potatoes, on the side! His creation is so huge and delicious, that I always have enough for a second yummy breakfast the next morning, if I so decide! This Benedict would make other lesser chefs weep, nash their teeth, weep with jealousy, and run & hide! Other so called fine dining places, give you skimpy portions of prepacked ingredients and basically take you & your money for a ride! If you have the taste of a gourmand and the appetite of a dinosaur, then you must not miss the amazing Eggs Benedict at Seaside! P.S.- Other hints, to which I recommend you abide: There are other wonderful choices here that will satisfy your hunger I will confide. Besides the amazing Benedicts, they have great sandwiches, salads, soups, and drinks, if you so desire & decide to imbibe. Please don't be late, nor try to order a Benedict after 1pm, since the amazing homemade sauce seems unavailable later, once I found out, I became tearful, and in vain, I almost cried. The good news, is that they have new extended hours, for most lunch-type items until 6 PM, from Thurs to Sunday near the sea side. BTW- The ocean cliffs beach walk and the Dinosaur Caves Beach Park is just a very short walk away, but you must drive down the coast a few miles to Pismo Beach, to be able to safely do a water surf slide. ....and yes, you heard me right, the snooty stingy chefs at the Ritz Half Moon Bay have something to learn.... ..... from the humble & generous chef at the Seaside!

Disappointed after the glowing SLO City News Review. Read the recent review and decided to give it a try. We went with my son who had been before and had mixed results before. He loved the English Muffin. Setting outside on a nice day is great. Prices are high but the quantities are big. Food was good - my wife had the Monte Cristo and I had the Chicken and Frites. Two big issues, though. First was the wait.......45 minutes plus and there was only one other couple there. No explanation or even an "I'm sorry" when it finally came. Second was the caterpillar I discovered at the bottom of my basket of frites. When I pointed it out to the cashier, she said, "Oh my, God!" But that was it, no apology, no offer of a pastry or anything. We won't be back! Ed C.

Yum, yum...small and quaint and the food was awesome. My husband and I shared the breakfast tostada and the "to die for" French toast. The tostada had an amazingly favorable chile verde sauce and the French toast melted in your mouth with the cream cheese frosting topping. The cappuccino and the latte were also delicious with smooth flavor and good foam. The servers were friendly and the helpful, giving favorite menu recommendations and coming out to turn on heaters on the deck when we were chilly. Would definitely go back next time we are in town.

I WANT to love this place ....I really, really do. I have been there many times to try and change my own mind, but I just can't. This last time was my deciding factor to not return - at least for food. Coffee, maybe. During the week, there seemed to have been only 4 tables occupied. I ordered Eggs Benedict (Traditional) with Asparagus (yum, I thought) and Canadian Bacon and a latte. $18 and 40 minutes later (GUH!) my food comes and there's NO ASPARAGUS and there's regular bacon on it and a fried egg. Not only did a pay a MASSIVE amount for something I did not order, it took almost an hour to get it ...and remember - only 4 tables were occupied, and 2 were already eating when I ordered. I wasn't about to take it back and wait another hour to get a re-order, so I just picked through it, and threw 1/2 of it away. Obviously, I am not the first person to experience this (reading another review), so why do they keep it on the menu if they aren't going to serve it with asparagus? It shows me the total lack of respect for customers by repeating these mistakes and not caring enough to do anything about it. I'd rather give my hard earned money to a merchant who actually cares about their customers.

Quaint breakfast spot for the locals of the "Pizzie". Outside tables provide an excellent perch to view the overpriced "antiques" collected by some grumpy old fixture and perhaps given room for display as part of the lease. Highlights include an Elvis clock with no legs ($70), Dale Earnhardt collectable car ($285...or perhaps priceless). Service was friendly if not slightly confused. 2 orders of granola were orphaned by people who paid and then left, perhaps because the proprietor wouldn't stop pulling up on his shorts to keep them waistbound. Delicious Boysenberry waffles topped with powdered sugar and fresh fruit ("syrup's inside, help yourself") and a sloppy handful of goodness that is the breakfast sandwich, on your choice of croissant, bagel or homemade english muffin. Both Served up with generous helpings of local hospitality and both eagerly devoured by these two reviewers.

yum yum yum!! HUGE portions, probably best to split these dishes. no normal human being can take down this size meal in one sitting. i had the shell breakfast burro and it was tasty! the blueberry pancakes and benedicts looked amazing as well. all fresh fruits and homemade bakery goods, great coffee and espresso... this is my kind of place! the only downfall is that it does take a little bit of time, but sit outside and relax, it's worth the wait.

My kind of place. 4 stars for yummy eggs benedict (really really good, hollandaise sauce was not too thick, bread still crisp, egg cooked well, and nice grilled veggies on the side). You can feel the love in the food served, which is really nice. I like the flavored water provided outside. Heat lamps make sure it never gets too cold despite the weird CA micro climates. I am just here for the summer and the eggs benedict I had rivaled any SF foodie breakfast. The 5th star is for the friendly service and letting my dog sit on the cozy porch. The place just has a nice homey feel and I dig that. I do wish they were open a bit later but I can't complain as I typically stroll in there near closing time and they, most of the time, feed me.

So I get all the positive reviews - food's fresh and pretty good, arguably the best on the CC. Can't think of too many other breakfast places that are much better. (Believe me, we've tried a lot from Cayucos to MB to SLO to SM.) But... The food takes forever and the dude in the front can float some serious d-head attitude. For what it's worth, ordered: -Shell Burro (nothing special with regard to ingredients or originality, can get better from a good taco truck in the Mission or LA) -Garden Goddess B-fast burrito (sweet potato mash was a TOTAL salt bomb-if it weren't orange and mashed, I'd think it was a salt lick, zero sweet potato flavor) -The blueberry pancakes (uneventful, far from standout-might be an unfair comparison but Clinton St Bakery in NYC is the gold standard). And they ran out of "what made them famous," the homemade English muffins...it was 11:30 am. There go the side dish and all 3 eggs Benedict dishes. So if you're jones-ing for some decent breakfast and baked goods, and can numb yourself to the "we serve great food and are popular, so deal with the service" bee-yotch attitude, go for it. If/when I go again, gotta remember the breakfast nazi. Food: 2.0 Service: 2.0 Ambiance: 3.0

BAD SERVICE!! Tim was rude & got our order wrong and no apology was offered. We were treated like it was an inconvenience for us to be there giving them business! We are in a recession but obviously Seaside doesn't seem to care! Will not go back, go 1 block down to Steaming Bean!!!

Wow, we were prepared to wait, but... When we arrived at 8:30 am there was one person ahead of us waiting for a to-go order. Since it was chilly we sat inside, lots of flies, blasting crappy lite jazz (oddly, all the way up the coast, what's with the lite jazz?) and the tables were dirty. We were sill game and cheerful. My husband ordered a bagel all the way (salmon, cream cheese, etc.), I ordered the banana pancakes. We waited. People came in to order coffee, some got baked goods, some ordered food and the person behind the counter said, "That menu's not available until 9" so we presumed he'd be working on our order before then. We waited. At 9 he shouted over the counter, "Sorry, I don't have any salmon, do you want something else?" Hubby decided on just a bagel. We waited. 15 minutes later a puffy, cakey bagel with a huge slab of cream cheese and one order of partially mealy, partially uncooked pancake arrived. The bananas looked like they were cut by a 2 year old, they were misshapen hunks and varying slices, plus a few scattered on top with no care. There was some vanilla sauce spattered around. The pancake had a salty flavor, a little too much baking soda, or maybe just too hastily mixed. Clearly, there's no love going into this food. The guy gave us back some money, the difference between a schmear bagel and a bagel a-t-w, but seriously, he should have apologized and at least comped the crappy bagel. He actually asked how our we liked our food!! - I told him it was really mediocre, and that we couldn't believe how long we had to wait listening to lite jazz. At least he changed the station. We left hungry and went to a little coffee shop a few blocks north and got some stuff to-go. It wasn't spectacular, but it only took 5 minutes!

You have got to try this place. Everything is made there at the Seaside Cafe. Since all of the food is made by the owners there is a wait for this excellent food. It is not to difficult to wait in beautiful Shell Beach Village. The weather is nice the people are nice and the food and coffee are fantastic. The owners names are Tim and Liz. They will make your time spent there an unforgetable experience.

I fell into the hype trap, sorry to say. The photos looked great online, don't be fooled. The scone was doughy (they said it was frosting); scrambled eggs were cooked dark (they said, "that's how our eggs come out"); and bacon was an interesting combination of burned and undercooked. The French toast had dry bread in the middle. (not soaked long enough). To top it off, my companion received her order well before I received mine, like 10 minutes before and that's after we waited a half hour for hers. Coffee was good. (but refills cost $.50.) If you have time and aren't a picky eater and have a fat wallet, add a second star. Otherwise, one lone star for misleading this mother on Mother's Day.

Sometimes it pains me to be honest about a restaurant...especially a local (non-franchised) place. I have to be honest here about our experience this morning at the Seaside Cafe. We walked into this tiny place this morning to see a display counter of wonderful looking scones and muffins. All looked very good, but we were already looking forward to trying the pancakes (banana pancakes for my wife and blueberry for myself.) A worker came and took our order while we were in line, gave us our order receipt, and we waited to move to the front of the line to pay for our meal. The worker moved behind us after taking our order and he told the patron that it "would be about an hour and 15 minutes to receive his order." He gave us no indication of how long our order would be, but thought "there's no way that our pancakes could take that long." We proceeded to the register and paid for our order and then found a table outside. Our coffee came out about 10 minutes later, but not a big deal. It was a beautiful morning and we had a table in the sunshine. A half hour had passed after receiving our coffee, but still no meal. The group who ordered in front of us still had not received their meal either. Finally about 45 minutes after we had sat down, one plate came out to the group of 8. Five minutes later, the next plate, and then so on. By the time the last person had received his meal, the first to receive his meal was already done. Finally, our pancakes had arrived. My wife's pancakes came out first. Five or so minutes later, mine came out. The pancakes were fine...nothing great, but decent. The vanilla icing that was put on top was overpowering. It made the pancakes way too sweet. We ate the pancakes and left feeling "blah" from a sugar overload. All in all, the place had a nice feel to it. Would we go again? Probably not. If we did, it would be key to order something already made such as a muffin or scone, ask for a glass of water, and enjoy the rest of your morning. Price for breakfast $25 (not including tip) for 4 pancakes (two banana for my wife and two blueberry for me) and a latte for each of us. Way overpriced!!!

I've been here a couple times now and it is one of the best places in this county! I've had their homemade granola with soy milk which was amazing, banana pancakes which were the best I've ever had, and french toast made with homemade bread. How many other cafes use homemade bread for their goods? Everything is made from their tiny kitchen in the back by one hardworking lady. Their lunch specials are also grub! I've had the tortellini pesto salad and the veggie sand which (again on homemade bread) that rivals Gus's and Muzio's. I have no complaints about this place. The service was always friendly and attentive. The prices are adequate. Not much over $10. I would pay a nice price to get some quality fresh food and help out a local dining spot. Sounds like those people just need to get their fix at McD's. This place is definitely worth checking out!

I love this little place, especially for breakfast. The high quality coffee and made-from-scratch food really set this place apart. Made-from-scratch food does take a bit longer, so if you're in a hurry, calm down! And the portions are HUGE! Really! Enough for two people! Also note that this is not a full service place. You order and pay at the register, and then they bring it to you. Most of the seating is outside and the patio is very casual but has heat lamps and umbrellas. There are a few small tables inside but there is not much room. I haven't tried too many lunch items but love their pancakes, benedicts, and breakfast burritos. The pastry case always has tempting looking items in it, but I never have room for dessert here! I am looking forward to trying other menu items here soon! (Warning: this place can be very crowded during tourist season, so you might want to visit during the week!)

I saw the lady's bowl of fruit with her pancake. It looks so good. So I decided to order myself a bowl of fruit and a bowl of oatmeal with fruits. My husband and daughter ordered a French toast and crab Benedict. I paid and sat outside to wait for our order. It took about 30 mins for the oatmeal to arrive. I was wondering what happened to the bowl of fruits and the rest of our orders. I went to check my receipt if she ring up the bowl of fruits. I found out that the lady at cashier did not. So I went back to cashier. Nobody was at front. There was another customer in front of me waiting. He couldn't wait so he just left. A young guy from the kitchen saw me at the front so he came by and ask me what I need. He then called the lady who ring me up the orders. The lady said I didn't order it. So I told her, i ordered it and it was not rang up but I do want it and I'll pay for it. She told me they then that they don't have fruits anymore. I saw the lady on other table having fruits. She said it was the last one. But I can see there's bananas in front of me by the desk. I just went back and just waited for the rest of our orders. They then serve my husband crab Benedict . It was ok, not the best. At probably 40 mins already, my daughters French toast (10.95$) hasn't come up yet. My husband told the server that we're still waiting for her order. When it came, the longest wait we have, it has blackberries and blueberries on top of the French toast.

We stay in shell beach for our summer vacation, and have been to most of the local places for food, coffee, and yummies. Our favorite meal of the day is breakfast. There are several chain restaurants in town to choose from, but we support local business, and love the feel of a small cafe like Seaside. As you have read, the portions are enormous, the coffee, Illy, is superb, and the menu is thoughtful and enticing. Seaside has a pastry case with muffins, bread cakes, and croissants, and a few other similar options. They serve breakfast and lunch, and the locals all seem to know about SC, some even wandering behind the counter. SC is a relaxed place with 95% of the seating outside. We had (over three visits) the breakfast sandwich on English muffin (homemade), the belgian waffle, a chocolate croissant, the coconut muffin and the coffee. Homemade English muffins are an earmark of a chef who knows what he/she is doing. In this case, it's husband and wife, and they are good chefs. The english muffin was BIG, flakey, and well-aerated by yeasties, but could have used more salt (was there any salt in the dough? Could you have forgotten it that day?). The Belgian waffle was enormous and had a really nice fruit glaze and fresh blueberries and raspberries on top. The B'fast sandwich came on an English muffin with over medium egg, really high-quality canadian bacon/ham, cheese, onion AND fried potatoes. Like I said, huge portions. The coffee is the best in town. Hard to go wrong with Illy brand. And let me just spend a moment on the coconut muffins. My wife is a pretty good pastry chef, and she claims that these are some of the best she has ever had. Gotta try a coconut muffin when you come here! I have read the "slow service" reviews. McYuckies has a drivethru for those people. If you have time to site and chat with your family and other customers, and time to enjoy a cup of coffee and pastry, and time to wait for a talented chef to prepare you breakfast, the Seaside cafe is for you. If not, then go somewhere else.

There are breakfast places and then there is Seaside Cafe & Bakery! I have a breakfast club with two other retired men and we have been to just about every non chain restaurant that serves breakfast in San Luis Obispo County and a few in Santa Barbara County. This one gets five stars for its originality and twists on standards for breakfast. This is a small outdoor cafe that is not really set up for big groups. It is a casual place and if you are looking for ambiance...this is not your place. But the food is great!! We had huevos rancheros, chille verde eggs and eggs with bacon-white cheddar tater tots with chipotle dipping sauce. Each dish was generous and very tasty. So if you are hungry and not rushed for eating breakfast, try this place and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

The food was awesome!! Great location!! The only complaint would be the cashier. We were interested in the 64 ounce growler of champagne and naked oj but simply asked if we could purchase it unmixed because I do not like the oj to be overwhelming. She blew us off very unenthusiastically and said it can't be sold that way. Obviously if they have oj and champagne...it can. Anyhow we decided to Skip the Mimosas and just order breakfast which was absolutely fabulous and hand delivered by a very eccentric and charismatic chef. She more than made up for the lack of concern for customer service displayed by the cashier. She was also kind enough to bring us the water cups we asked the cashier for when we first ordered. I couldn't help but notice the fact that customers that arrived after us were given the same bare minimum treatment from the sub par employee. Aside from her lack of care for the customers I would definitely recommend this place!

hands down my favorite place for breakfast in slo county. yes the wait is long, and that's why the food is so phenomenal. if you want quick service and runny eggs, burnt pancakes, stale toast, etc then try somewhere else. the food here is 100% WORTH THE WAIT. i'm obsessed with the blt benedict, but all the new pancake options are going to be getting my full attention soon. just look at a pic of the birthday cake pancakes... it's like a party on a plate! also, they make their own english muffins. be sure and order something with one of those involved, or get one for the road. mindblowing.

Don't be fooled by the rickety exterior - this place serves up a delicious and high quality breakfast. Their benedicts are particularly tasty, with homemade english muffins and fresh seafood. The portions are HUGE, so you probably want to share with a friend.

Probably my favorite breakfast food place in SLO, definitely worth the short drive out. Can't really go wrong getting anything here. Their Benedict is very tasty (notably the smoked salmon Benedict), they've got great omelettes/scrambles and really good pancakes (try splitting the chunky monkey pancakes with someone, they are outrageous but HUGE). Yes, the service is a tad long but it's a single grill operation and well worth the wait. Plus it's in a great area so you can't really complain much. I want to try the whole menu so I expect to be coming back!

Came here after reading so many good reviews. Well they were out of their "to die for French toast", so I had to settle for their "banana toffee crunch pancake" which turn out pretty yummy too. It was topped off with a mountain of whip cream and I didn't even put any maple syrup. Not sure which is better for u. syrup or whipped cream ;) but since I don't like maple syrup ... The choice was easy. Coffee was good too, especially on this cold foggy morning.

Meh. Driving through town and encouraged by the positive reviews, we stopped in for brunch. I would probably skip it, but not for the waiting time ... geez guys, it's a small mom and pop joint in a beach town ... give 'em a little slack! Anyway, I was excited to see a jumbo prawn Benedict on the list of specials, and ordered it without a second thought. The hollandaise was quite good, but the rest fell flat if not worse. The prawns were killed (overcooked), tough, and lemony to the point that it seemed they were trying to preserve their useful life. Poached eggs were cooked perfectly and a touch of greens was just right, but overall, I'd say this dish fell far short of it's potential. A scramble of sausage (kielbasa variety ... too sweet) was overcooked without much care for presentation. The potato mix that accompanied both of these orders was an interesting combo of sweet and Yukon potatoes. Pretty good. The cocoa was a highlight - not too sweet. The croissant that went along with it was dry, a bit overcooked, and had been in the case too long. Disappointing ... Maybe just an off day, or maybe we chose a couple of specials that hadn't been quite worked out. If I go back, I would probably choose one of the items on the regular menu that look so great in the yelp photos (and that caught my attention in the first place).

The problem is that this place has really good food that is both inventive and tasty, but the owner is extremely rude on a regular basis. My family and I used to come here frequently but after being treated badly on multiple occasions (several times after the staff had actually made a mistake on our order), I will avoid going back. I have heard the same reviews from friends again and again. The owner seems to feel that the food is above reproach and has no regard for customer satisfaction. As a business owner, I find this behavior incredible. It's really a shame, because with nicer service, this place could be awesome and would get five stars. A lot of the other YELPers seemed to feel the same way - maybe there is a something be learned here?

Went on a Friday morning in summer with three people ahead of us. Took 40 minutes for pancakes to arrive. Accompanying quiche only 30, but it was cold. I ordered blueberry lemon pancakes that came with blackberries, changed because there were no blueberries available. Which they didn't bother to tell me when I ordered...40 minutes ago. Woman who took orders at the front could barely be bothered to take our order. I suspect the food is decent here, but it's hard to get past the utter disdain they seem to have for their customers.

Fabulous little hole in the wall! The eggs Benedict with lump crab was heavenly. And the potatoes were amazing. The French toast with berries was also wonderful. You must give this place a try. Be prepared to sit outside as there is very little seating inside.

I love this place. Just realize that this is NOT FAST FOOD. The wait is regularly 20-40 mins. Get a mimosa, listen to the music, read the newspaper and enjoy the weather. Don't eat here if you are in a rush or are an impatient person. I can't even repeat that enough times. This place gets packed in the summer, so be prepared to wait. Take a friend, have an actual conversation. Of if you go alone, enjoy people watching and just chill. Despite the owner telling everyone that it was at least a 30 min wait for food, two other tables of people got all pissed off about it. I heard one table muttering about how their tip should be to "speed up things", and then another lady full on chastised the owner and claimed she was "forgotten"... which I mean, I get because I hate that feeling too. They're always upfront and honest about how long it will take, and I would say add on another 10-20 min to the estimate if you want to be completely accurate. Is that ideal? No. But it is what it is and this place is small. Personally I love this place because the food is always awesome. The english muffin today was sadly the worst one I've ever had from there, usually it's light and crispy and perfect. Today it was doughy and kind of gross. I also got skimpy servings on potatoes. But usually it's really great. Be aware if you are vegetarian, for some reason they screw up the egg sandwiches and put ham on them no matter what. I've had to trade with my friend at least 3 times when they put ham on hers and then somehow not on mine. Which makes no sense at all. They also have you bus your own tables, which might be off putting to some. I don't mind, it's my own plate I'm touching so no biggie. They also have free water by the bussing station. The mimosa was huge, and perfect. They use Naked juices, which are sooooo good. Totally worth it. I also got a Yerba Mate tea. They have it fresh brewed in a pump pot just like the coffee which is great. Had a couple of those, my mimosa and my food and listened to the great music and it was an awesome way to start my sunday. The eggs are a little runny for me, but they are really good. I'm not a big egg person, so I generally have to stop eating them about 2/3rd of the way full and end up disassembling my sandwich into the components, and just cutting them up that way instead. I can't eat too much ham either. But it's a great sunday breakfast. Like I said though, do not go here if you are in a rush. Just save yourself the trouble. This is a place for a relaxed meal. If you expect anything else, you will be pissed off and disappointed.

alright, how do i begin this... went in today 7/21 ordered a ham sandwich. I took almost 30 minutes for that simple thing! I also had the iced tea and was told it was cost the same price for a refill because it was" hand made". after waiting for our food we go so hungry we wanted to try on the the baked goods, it was flavorless. We then proceeded to hear employes talking crap out about our order and the fact we wanted more food! As we finally got our food, it was luke warm and also very flavorless. the woman at the register was so so rude, with glasses and and short brown hair. She acted like we , cash paying costumers, were not important. I will never go back again. the place is beyond dirty and grimy and $4.00 for a black iced tea is absolutely a JOKE! overall THE WORST COSTUMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD

This place had potential, but it has let me down. On my first visit, 1 out of 3 meals in my group were great (mine! yay!). On my second visit, 4 out of the 4 were crap! Sweet potatoes replaced the fried potatoes in my breakfast burrito (just replaced. they didn't tell us... and they don't belong in a breakfast burrito). To top it off, most of those sweet potatoes were raw. Workers have attitude and the food takes entirely too long to get to you (over 40 minutes).

Only been once but it was bad enough I'm never coming here again, my mother tries to get a pastrami sandwich was told they don't have any so my parents both ask for the turkey sandwich it was 11 dollars for a good sandwich but about 1/4 pound of meat so it was real chincy. And now on to my breakfast burrito it was horrible no seasoning at ALL on the taters and the eggs were over cooked and the bacon was black and when they delivered my food is then when they told me they were out of my salsa they put on it, it wouldve been nice to know before I ordered. So all in all if you have deep pockets and no taste buds come here! At least the girls working were pretty and nice that the only reason for the 2nd star

I agree with others, this is pricy but it's some of the best lunch food on the go I've ever had. And the breakfasts coming out of that little kitchen while I waited in line nearly stopped my heart (and actually if I'd eaten that many pancakes they might have done that quite literally). Best soy latte of our road trip down the coast came from here and I have good things to report about their hot sandwiches. Just a side note: it's not the most spacious place and while you may feel like taking things to go -- don't. Your precious hot sandwich is meant to be devoured instantly with wreak-less abandon.

I'm going 4 stars because the French Toast was really amazing. My companion had the egg sandwich, also a winner. However, I wish I had known (probably should have read more reviews) that it is a very uncomfortable setting! You order at the counter, and then, good luck finding a table. And if you can find a table, be guaranteed the chairs--black metal--are uncomfortable and most were in the sun. There are four tables inside, but they are either right in the path of those waiting to order, or in the corner where the music is so loud that you can forget about any conversation. Really a shame because the menu is so tempting, and the food we ate was delicious. Wish they would invest in comfortable tables and chairs, and a giant patio cover and then I'd happily give them 5+ stars :)

Ok, let's get down to business. This is the second time here, and I was truly disappointed. They told us the wait was 45 minutes, but we decided to wait and enjoy the sunny cool day. The 3 of us all ordered The same burrito and waited patiently for our food. Noticing other people that arrived after us and received their food before us, we were getting a little anxious. 2 other friends arrived 15 minutes after us and they were also told 45 minutes. They ordered the burrito as well. So finally the food started coming and they called a name Doug, there was no one there named Doug. But it was obviously our burrito, so we took it. Our friends who arrived after us received their burrito before us, it made no sence. So finally one more burrito showed up and we were short one burrito. The main manager came to out to our table and was trying to clear things up and gave us some attitude. He clearly was blaming us for their mistake, so finally noticing that he was one burrito short he said he would make one, but not willing to wait another 45 minutes I asked for my money back. Now about he food, they had sweet potatoes inside the burrito that were hard and half cooked(according to my friends). They hated it. Anyway my advice is to avoid this restaurant at all cost.

Yes the food was pretty good. However, like most reviews, its takes a loooong time to get your food. Over an hour for us. Luckily my 4 year old niece and 2 year old nephew was in a pleasant mood and can sit down for an hour with no complaint. Once we finally got our food, my side of scrambled eggs was missing and was told they'll be coming right out. I was already finished with my meal before my eggs finally came out AFTER we had to ask about them at the front. Really? All you have to do is scramble that ish and put in on the plate. So my boyfriend wrote on yelp that he still haven't gotten his eggs. The owner of this cafe singled him out on his review that he just posted a minute ago in front of all the other customers, basically causing a scene. Saying "you should have came to me about your eggs". actually sir, we did. my dad came inside to ask and then finally got the eggs 5 minutes later. Then, he fed us excuses like we have a substitute chef, it'll take just as long at other places, we're a mom and pop shop, blah, blah, blah. The owner was so inappropriate causing a scene like this in public. He was plain rude and fought his way trying to get my boyfriend to take down his review. Who the hell are you to come at us like that. For a mom and pop shop like you say you are, this is unacceptable. Instead of being on yelp looking at what people say, you should spend your time figuring out how to get food out to your customers more efficiently.

Great little place, nice staff and the owner is always there working as well, which is refreshing. Had a great burger and fries. Only downside is that it took over 15 minutes to get our food and there was only one other couple at the restaurant at the time and their drinks are cans.

Two local girls on our lunch hour. We went in with coupons purchased through CentralCoastDeals.com . My friend ordered and then the big dude (Tim , the owner) asked what I wanted, I was waiting for him to finish her transaction, at the cash register, before I ordered. It felt a little awkward. Then I ordered and we both presented our coupons. He took one coupon and applied it to the total bill that he had lumped together, instead of letting us order and pay separately. I said we each had a coupon and he held the coupon up and pointed to the front that said, one per visit. I said we each had one coupon per visit. His demeanor was very rude and abrupt and was not open for discussion on the coupon. My really nice friend paid the bill with the use of the one coupon. I was so honey badger mad that when he brought our food I had no response for his then, sweet as honey false manner. He proceded to make sure we were happy and brought complimentary day old home made cupcakes. At this point I was still very angry and did not speak to him. My nice friend did all of the talking. The food was good but the whole experience put a bad taste in our mouths. We will never go back. My friend had been once before and had a similar experience with the customer service. So the moral of the story is: If the owner of a cafe is going to advertise and offer discounted coupons then he shouldn't be difficult when a patron is trying to purchase a meal using them.

WOWZA!!!!!!! I was literally in shock of how deliciously delectable my sandwich was! We heard some good words and wanted to give it a try. The outside is small and adorable with outdoor seating. The menu is mainly breakfast and lunch. I had a pesto roasted turkey sandwich with brie cheese.. ohhh my goodness- it was amazing. The heat from the roasted turkey made the brie soft and gooey- simply brilliant! I am so sad this place is far away from my home.. If you are driving through Pismo, you HAVE to stop and eat this sandwich. Seriously. If you don't go- I'm going to be mad at you.

Um, wow! Went her for the first time last weekend and i was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and food! The patio seating was complete with heat lamps which made the chilly morning feel decent. It felt very vacation-ish and relaxing - perfect breakfast atmosphere. The customer service was good: a young girl (i think the owner's daughter) was so sweet and brought us out our lattes and food. And the food was delicious! We ordered the french toast and a side of roasted potatoes. I think this is my new favorite breakfast place! So quaint, i can't wait to bring my mom here when she visits.

The attention and care that goes into making a robust and delicious meal is easily worth the relatively low wait time. This place is an amazing place to stop by before a day full of activity in the central coast. One of THE hang out spots in Shell Beach.

Do not go for the service. There is none. The food was ok until I pulled the hair out of my pancake. The reaction from the employee "does this mean you're done with the plate?" Enough said!

This place has a hometown feel where everyone knows your name. We were there ready to order and in the middle of ordering, a guy comes in a pick up order and the girl behind the register disregards us and cancels our order....just to ring up the guy that walks in behind us. Okay. From that experience I could understand the disgruntled reviews on here. But we weren't going to let that ruin our Saturday!! Okay, still sitting here while other orders are coming out for people that came after us....still trying to not let the service ruin our Saturday.... Our food finally came and it was GOOD. I would definitely go here again, but I would probably opt for take out and try calling in my order ahead of time.

I found out about this ever so secret location from a friend a couple years back and have been a changed person ever since. Seaside's beauty lies in the fact that dining there means you are going to catch a break from the usual get you in/get you out sort of feeling many restaurants have, so I always make a point to bring people from out of town to show them a fantastic meal and to get some SERIOUS catch up time. The catch up time can get a little excessive though.... The food? Easily the most delicious breakfast food in all of the San Luis Obispo area. Easily. You might have to ask for your coffee a couple times, or if it's a busy day, wait 45- 1 hour for food, but I've gotten into the habit of calling it in before so its waiting for me, or getting a pastry to tide me over until the real deal. And as far as the back antique shop goes? A few treasures, I've even bought some things there before, but what could be better for that business than turning it into seating area or adding on to the kitchen? Spread your wings and fly, Seaside. ALSO! They offer mimosas, screwdrivers, and bloodmarys that are to die for. WORTH IT. Bottom line: Seaside is slow, but the food/drinks/coffee make you forget all about it. Go there.

The breakfast foods are very good and they have an inventive menu that works. Baked goods, pancakes, french toast and waffles more so than the egg dishes. If prices seem a little high, it's it proportion of the amount of food you get. My wife and I usually split something and are satisfied. Here's my take on the negative reviews. This place is busy and has only about 15 seats and you seat yourself. The kitchen is also small. Sooooo........you need to understand that if it's busy, you should expect to fight for a seat and you should expect to wait a while for your food. You might just want to order it to go and take your food/coffee to a nearby park. If you go on the weekend, you're entering a hipster battlefield. Go on a weekday, order some sugary carbs and relax outside under one of their umbrella and heat lamps.

Definitely busy after 9 AM--good sign! Had to wrangle a chair, but everyone was happy and friendly. Ordered the Greek Benedict, Cinnamon Streusel muffin, and scrambled egg sandwich.Dark roast coffee was solid--bold and strong. They definitely don't rush the food, and it was worth the wait!! Check it out, you will not be disappointed!

The hubby and I were in Pismo Beach for our first family vacation with our 5 month old baby and we stopped by this quaint little coffee shop for breakfast. We absolutely love the coffee (they use illy) and rate that as 5 stars but the food... Good Lord the food took 25-30 minutes. I ordered French Toast (which was two slices with powdered sugar and fruit on top) and the hubby ordered a scramble with spinach, mushroom, and cheese. I just can't give this place a higher star rating because the food took so long. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a good cup of coffee and if you're not starving for breakfast and about to gnaw your own arm off.

Only come here if you have PLENTY of time to sit around and wait for your order. For an order of pancakes, a scrambled egg sandwich and an eggs Benedict it took over 30 minutes. The coffee was great but I had it finished before the food came. WAY before... Also, don't sit inside no matter how cold it may be. Far too many random people walking in and out of the kitchen which makes you wonder. There are also kids that bring your food out and work back in the back. Nothing like a child breathing on your food was they walk it to you... After inquiring where our food was after 30 minutes we were told it's JUST going on the grill... I'm sorry but only one couple was in front of us when we ordered... At this point I'm real annoyed and hoping the food is good... at least edible. Too bad my order was wrong. I cant have diary and specifically asked for no whipped cream on my pancakes and watched the guy write it down. When my order arrived 45 minutes later (yup juuust pancakes) it was covered in whip. Awesome. When I asked for a side plate to scrape it all off they offered to remake it "really fast". By the time I got my pancakes a second time the other two people were almost done eating. The eggs Benedict was a fried egg and Ham and really thick (probably canned) hollandaise sauce which was edible (according to the person who ordered it) but not worth the 45 minute wait. All of our orders weren't worth the wait or what we paid for. Take that with a grain of salt (because the chef took our pepper of the table and didn't give it back). Here's the 4 hour later update... all of us are sick and spending the day inside and close to a toilet. Food took forever to get there but didn't last long once consumed.

The coffee and muffins are alright but a customer there said this place has good breakfast. The music is a bit too loud n it's indoor area is pretty small so it's not really good to come here for working.

I thought I would start 2011 with some good breakfast. Boy, was I disappointed. This place is a little shack with only 8 seats inside. It was raining so most of the outdoor patio seating were wet. We sat in the cold outside just underneath the overhang after ordering the food. It took a long while before the food came out. My Greek eggs benedict was vegetarian to my surprise. Maybe I should have paid more attention when reading the chalkboard menu on the wall. The egg was NOT poached and it sat on a bed of spinach which sat on a thick slice of slightly toasted bread. The potatoes were lightly seasoned. I would have liked a little more crunch to them. Although the food was fresh, I felt that $14 for a vegetarian eggs benedict was a bit pricey. The coffee was self serve. All of the canisters were empty. The employees had to be reminded several times before the canisters were refilled. After I was done eating my breakfast, I thought I would get some pastries for the long trip home. I got the chocolate croissant and the coffee cake. I have to admit that that was the best chocolate croissant I have ever had. It was light, flaky, and crunchy. The coffee cake was too sweet for me to finish. Someone had a heavy hand with the icing. I would only recommend coming here for the chocolate croissants.

Have to update. I go out of my way to eat here each time we come this way and this time was the first it was markedly NOT AS GOOD. It was still a very above-average breakfast, but definitely not what I've come to expect. I think they are sacrificing quality slightly to get food out more quickly. Usually you're waiting forever here, but it's worth it. I see everyone else complaining about the wait and I think Seaside Cafe has addressed that, at least maybe on the weekends (which is when we were there). This is commendable but I'd rather wait! Our food was out in a hurry, but right away I could tell it was not THE SAME. Same guy was working there, but he had multiple cooks back there rather than just him and the woman. Have to say the guy needs to lay the smackdown or handle it himself if only he can provide the goods. They were a bit skimpy on the fruit topping, and the french toast was just a little mushy and doughy, not the delicious crispness I've gotten used to. Potatoes were a bit dry, nothing like the usual. A little disappointing for sure. I'll go back next time for sure, but I hope I get the old version!

This place was a pleasant surprise on my recent trip to Pismo Beach. The owner was a little off-putting when I first ordered my food, I sort of understand why people say he is rude but he then came outside to talk to everyone about how he started the restaurant, how they make all their sauces in-house, and was very receptive to another customers suggestions and critiques on the french toast. He asked everyone's name and was really friendly. Maybe he is just more charming when you get him talking about his restaurant :) The food was good, I had a grilled cheese w/ pesto and greens. The taste was there but it had way too much cheese on the already thick french bread and way too many greens so it was hard to eat. I had to pick out some cheese and greens and cut it into smaller pieces with a fork and knife to be able to handle it. I don't think I'd order it again. However, my friend had the breakfast tostada and it was GREAT. Light, fresh, and the perfect amount of salsa verde. Perfect for breakfast because it didn't leave you with that heavy, bloated feeling. By the way, THE BEST CARAMEL MOCHA EVER. The end :)
